Does The .22 Rimfire Hollow Point Really Expand?

Back when I had access to about 50# of excess newsprint each week, I used it often as bullet test media. Unfortunately, the tester introduced considerable variation into his tests by re-using the media resulting in less than accurate comparisons.
The wet newsprint also offers far more resistance than actual flesh resulting in more impressive expansion.
My experience also indicates that a fair amount of variance is created by differing amounts of 'wetness' of the newsprint if several 'batches' were required.

Well, my very limited experience in the recovered HP .22 rounds has shown that in most animals I pulled them from they did expand. In fact,, the one that went through my left thigh expanded some as well. I have it & a couple I pulled from deer I had to dispatch for LEO's.

BTW; I didn't bother with viewing the video. All too often there are variables in some tests that do not replicate real flesh.

I asked raccoon once, that I'd shot with a .22 if it expanded. He refused to answer me.

I can tell you from experience that some 22 ammo most certainly does expand. I shot this big boy this past week from about 45 yards. I was shooting Federal American Eagle 38gr HP ammo. It was standing up towards me so I took a chest shot. Turned out to be a bit higher than I preferred, but this 10-22 is sighted in at 75 yards. Notice the entry hole just to the right of center between the front legs. If flopped over backwards and I turned around with a big smug smile as my buddy was sitting behind me. Then he says hey its getting away. As you can see on the belly there is clearly no exit wound on his back, so pretty sure that one expanded. As it was crawling away I hit it again broadside through the boiler room. Nothing quite as satisfying as that deep dull thud when you know you had a good solid hit.
