Do Old and New Model grip panels interchange?

I notice some nicely-figured wood on some of the New Model Ruger Blackhawk and Super Blackhawk grips and wondered if they fit the Old Models. A couple of my Old Models have rather drab wood on them and I'd like to add a little excitement to them without losing the factory medallion look.

And if there are people out there making factory-look medallion grips from fancy wood I would like to hear about them as well.

For the most part, they will interchange as long as they are the same pattern. There are variations between individual guns and batches of guns but grips will usually interchange with perhaps minor fitting. Most gripmakers offer factory medallions. My favorite has been Cary Chapman but he has been having health problems and no longer responds to my messages.

Nope! The New vaquero frame is the same as the original XR3 frame. The original Vaquero is an XR3-RED frame.

yes, within "like" models' ala the Supers, they will interchange, the new Supers come with some nice panels,at one time they offered them in rosewood, same for the early OLDER Vaqueros, in the past, lots of the Rugers had straight grained walnut,not much figure at all....the 44 flattops of yore (1956-57 had some very nice wood, and the engraved models, (RSSE) had some awesome wood...yes from time to time you will see and come across some nice figured wood,but not as a "norm" ,,,so you gotta go the custom route, add some medallions, and voila, NICE touch!!
I cannot keep any nice panels, they sell right away when I do find any.............
will have to keep an eye out and look for some for you........

Thanks to everyone who responded. Guess I'll start looking for some of the newer Ruger grips that have some figure to the wood. Probably quite a few "take-offs" out there that will eventually come up for sale. Regards, Ralph Boineau in central South Carolina
