Hello,

I apologize if this has been covered before - I ran a few searches and couldn't come up with an answer..

I've noticed that there are two different versions of the ghost rings that come on the PC9s.

These are not my pictures/guns:

Does anyone know why there are two different versions? And is there any functional difference between the two?

Thanks!

I read something about this somewhere on this forum, that the ghost ring sight shown in the first photo violated someone else's patent, so Ruger had to change it to a different type, as shown in the second photo.

The earlier peep is known to 470-14334 for the PC9GR and 480-13630 for the PC4GR.
The earliest of the new peep I have noted for both is 480-17335 for the PC9GR and 480-12155 for the PC4GR.

I dont know if you are looking for a carbine or not but I would recommend the late type GR if you can find one[bottom pic]. Sight seems much sturdier, does not snag on everything, looks better, not as many pieces that like to lose themselves, etc. Ive owned both and refined my collection to have only late PC's with that type of GR. Good luck!

Thanks Al - you pretty much "hit the nail on the head" as far as the concerns I was having with the early model GR.

I am in fact looking for a PC9. I seem to run across the early model GR more than the late model. In the last 4-5 months of looking for a PC9 I think I've only run across one with the later version GR, but it was going for $700 which seemed like too much.

So the search continues for what I now know to be a later model PC9 :)

I hate to add information that may disagree with Chet, but I have old emails from Mike/Coffee Pot indicating that there were actually three different types of ghost ring rear sights. I don't seem to have any pics showing whether the older type above is the first or second type, though.
