Our new Dick's and Field and Stream store opened here a couple weeks ago. I waited a few days for the initial crowds to subside and checked the place out. They have a great supply of firearms, of all manufacturers and models. But the best thing was they had .22lrs in abundance. Only two types, Federal and Remingtons. I was able to buy three 500rd. bricks for $29 each. Less than six cents per round. Not bad at all. I haven't seen that many .22s in one place in a long time. I hope they can keep it up and that it's not just a opening splash.

I'm glad you found what you needed at a fair price. I hope you bought the Federal .22's. My experience with recent Rem. Golden bullets has been dismal.

Dick's sucks as a company of its own. Maybe this ancillary (I had to look it up) arrangement will be good for Medford, OR. http://www.mailtribune.com/news/20161005/dicks-sporting-goods-and-field-amp-stream-combo-store-opens Ancillary: "An aid to achieving or mastering something difficult."

Seriously, exavid, I hope this store continues to fill your needs at affordable prices!

We had a Field & Stream store open here this spring. They seem to have the most complete ammo inventory of any large store in the state, including Cabelas and Bass Pro. They also have a very good reloading selection of power, primers, brass, bullets and dies. Their prices seem competitive or better and have weekly sales and specials on guns & ammo. I'm glad to have the added resource.

Yup, my local Dick's has ammo out the wazoo at great prices, I have a Dick's scorecard and get a $20 gift card for every $300 I spend. .22lr under 6 cents, .38 specials for around 25 cents, and Federal 5.56 for under 40 cents a round all on a regular basis and the scorecard bonus gets me a free box every so often.

Most Dick's stores were Galyan's prior to the Canadian-based Dick's buyout. Galyan's used to have a great archery section with pros and factory reps every hunting season - BEFORE season, not after! They also sold all the types of handguns - which was immediately stopped by the Canadians. All the high-quality camping stuff, from tents to optics and such - are gone, given over to cheapo third-rate stuff today. Pretty much a Korean shoe and spandex store now in my experience.

I hope your new store keeps the selection you enjoy. I have never been in a F&S store, so I won't comment there. I just stay out of full-retail stores these days, with few exceptions.

The store here has more handguns for sale than most of the other stores combined. Rifles are well represented too. I almost feel sorry for our Sportsmans Warehous and Coastal stores. I don't know what's driving it but Medford, OR is on a building spree. Several new large stores, lots of house building again and home prices are up 15% since last year. Huge new old folks facility being built near my place too.

Locally we have a pair of Dicks,, in the Trashville area. We had a F&S store open a while back in a remodeled mall. All attract a lot of folks. I USED to shop at Dicks some,, as they offered a BSA 10% discount. A few months ago,, I went in, as I hadn't been in there in a while due to the selection of things I may need. A friend wanted to look for something. He found his items, and we went to checkout. I was politely told that they do not give a BSA discount, NOR had they EVER done so. I came home & looked up my old BSA stuff,,, and yep,, I still have a card in my stuff about how they offered the discount. Locally, their selection of stuff is geared more towards the yuppie hiker, backpacker, & eco-freak crowd.
The F&S store,,, much better,, but as noted,, a retail priced store,, in an Outlet Mall setting,,, and I've shopped there a bit. I need to go by & check a few little things soon.

Now, Saturday,, Miss Penny & I went into a different store,, a Dunhams,, sporting goods store. They look like a bigger version of a Dicks,, but they do have more shooting, hunting & fishing stuff. I saw a box of ammo, I wanted to add to my collection. After hanging around the counter for several minutes waiting on any clerk, one finally showed up. I asked about ammo, and he went to UNLOCK the case. The ammo in question had a big ugly sticker on it,, AND it had clear shipping tape wrapped all over it. In fact,, ALL the ammo had tape wrapped around the boxes.
I politely asked "Why?"
I was told; "We have to do that after we put in security devices. We are required to do it by company rules."
Let's see,,, it's in a locked case, yet, they have to add a security device, AND add tape all over the box.
I told him I wanted an unaltered box,, so,,, NO SALE.

That store wasn't very busy & didn't seem to have many people even working in there.

I guess I'll go back to F&S to see if they have what I want.

We have a Dick's and a Field & Stream store near us. Field & Stream has a wide assortment of anything related to shooting. Ours carries a lot of different brands of ammo, including .22 rimfire. Prices are good, for the most part. It is my second choice locally for .22 rimfire ammo.

As an aside, I shoot a lot of .22 ammo (and I mean, a lot!) in my S&W 617. My bulk ammo preference if Federal AutoMatch. I have never had a failure to fire and it's accurate and reasonably clean. I know that some folks don't like Remingtons but I have had good luck with both Thunderbolts and Golden Bullets. My biggest complaints with them are the occasional failure to fire and in the case of the Thunderbolts, being dirty.

Strange about the Dunham's down your way Tyrone, they opened one near me in a mall (about 8-9 months ago) and it's a big store. All the ammo is right out in the open (like Bass Pro and Cabelas) and none has any special tape or anything on it.

As for Dicks and Field and Stream, I will not shop there no matter how good their prices are. Dicks threw gun owners under the bus after Sandy Hook. Dicks sided with the anti gunners and screwed firearms owners. People who had guns on layaway and even some who had guns paid for and were going to pick them up were not allowed to complete the transactions. Dicks pulled all the guns and sent them somewhere. They refunded the money to the buyers and that was that, no more guns in Dicks (at least the one here in my area).

Then, about a year later, HEY, a new store opened up about 40 miles away. A GREAT new store called Field and Stream, lots of guns (even evil black rifles). Well, some people started investigating and LO AND BEHOLD, the entity behind F&S was the same entity that owned/ran Dicks Sporting Goods. They fully castigated firearms owners but sure didn't want to lose out on those peoples money so they opened a new "gun owner/hunter friendly" store (that's where the guns that were pulled from Dicks went to). Freaking hypocrites. The gun owners I know (and I know a few :D due to the business I'm in) got the word out and around here most gun owners WILL NOT shop at Dicks or F&S anymore and they spread the word about Dicks hypocrisy on social media. We think that is one reason the Dunhams decided to open a store here.

IMO, Dunhams is so much better than either Dicks or F&S. In our store, there are always clerks to help when you need it but they are not pushy. I go in to look around to see what they have but in the case of firearms stuff, for my personal use, I really don't shop there (again because I'm in the business). I do have friends and acquaintances who work there and they will direct people to me who are looking for gun repair/gunsmithing work to be done, and I direct customers to them when they ask where to get hunting stuff that Wal-Mart doesn't carry.

We had a Field and Stream in Cary NC that lasted a couple years or so. I read pretty recently that they shut the doors forever. I've haven't been there to confirm it just what I read a few times. If it's on the internet it must be true as we know.

I was excited about it until I found out they were owned or affiliated with Dick's Sporting Goods. I went a time or two and once I found out about their affiliation to Anti Gun Dick's I never went back. I put Dicks in the same category as Cheaper Than Dirt. Neither will ever get a penny from me.

If Dicks gave stuff away I would not waste my time, hate what they have done to there business.
