So we were at the zoo today, and my daughter trades at the little kids store. She can bring in rocks and trade for point and "buy" stuff. We go often enough the zoo keepers know us and today they pulled this out of the back. She was instantly thrilled and had more than enough points to "buy" it. She had 20,000 and this was 8,000 just to give you a rough idea. Today she brought in a slice of agate. It was worth 5k points.

Anyway, how do I go about hanging it or whatnot? It won't sit level, and it's not in perfect condition for spending any money on to have it fixed up by a taxidermist. Or would it? How much does stuff like that cost? On the way to my gun range there is an Native American taxidermist. It's Don Nation Taxidermy. It took me a couple trips before I realized it wasn't donation taxidermy. Like taxidermy for the poor I guess...

I guess I could pound a nail into a stand of some sort and just hang it by that? But if anyone has any better ideas I'd love to hear them.

These work really well for European mounts.

The Skull Hookers that Greg suggested work really well. That is what I have been using to display my European mounts. Here I temporarily mounted one on the fence next to the house for some pics.http://www.rugerforum.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=215898 I recently moved some of my smaller mounts to the garage and just used a large spike to hang them on, it does work and much cheaper. Kevin, if you decide you want a wooden display stand I have several I am not using, walnut and oak if you want one I will send one out to you no charge. They do have a few scratches on them from my mounts. Not sure how well your skull will set on one as the one side of your skull is missing. PM me if you are interested.

So are you trying to be fancy? if not tie some wire through a couple of holes on the back or around the horns and stick a nail in the wall and hang them no one is looking at the mount anyway they will be looking at the scull and antlers.

Using a wire tied at two different points you can adjust the balance on the wall.

I just mounted the antlers from four of the deer we have killed since we moved to North Florida. I glued a small block of pressure treated wood into the brain cavity with an epoxy paste. Then ran a screw through the mounting board and into the piece of PT. Very easy really.

It you want to get the antlers back close to their natural color try mixing up some Rit dye. Brown/yellow/orange until you get what you want and put it on the antlers.

But I really like the lightered knot.

I may be cheap, but my European mounts sit rather nicely on those plastic coat hooks that have a smaller hook under the main hook. I screw the hook onto the pine paneling and the big hook goes right in the foramen. seems very secure to me and the angle the skull sits at is quite nice.

have one here and a simple wire "loop" through any of the convenient ( many ) cavities on the inside of the skull, heck, even a simple nylon tie, would look better, not show, blend in with the surrounding ,'inner' skull, and just hang it on a hook ( nail) in the wall..............

yes, even 'white' coat hanger will do.......
