Yesterday, I took a day trip to Genoa, NV as I had never been there. Between Carson City and Minden-Gardnerville turn west and close to the foothills of the Sierras there is the oldest community in NV. Famous for the yearly "Candy Dance". The inhabitants sell candy and have a dance. The population swells so much, all the roads in town are closed off as it has become very popular. The town also boasts of the oldest bar in NV which opened around 1853. The bar has some great pictures/signs on the walls. Originally women donated their bras to be hung on the ceiling, but when actress Raquel Welch bra was wanted, she replied all the rest have to come down and only her could be hung up there. The owner complied and all the other bras were placed in a safe in a corner of the room. Later when actress Ann Margaret wanted her bra hung up, she demanded that Raquel's bra had to come down. The owner denied her request. The Country Store across the street makes an awesome thick pastrami sandwich, so be sure you go over there as well.

I haven't been to Genoa is well over a decade. My wife and I used to travel to Tahoe yearly, usually taking 395. It's just a quick side trip to Genoa and we'd often stop there to eat. But I had never heard of the "Candy Dance". We must have missed that on our visits.

Now that my Baby sis lives in Sparks we go there from time to time, but it's usually some sort of family function and we haven't stopped in Genoa. Gotta do it the next time we go up.

I had an Ultra when I first arrived at the bar. Later after my sandwich, I went back and had a coffee and Kahlua as Ginger had made a fresh pot of coffee and it too was great.
