I just picked up a '92 model GP100 in 3" that is marked CAI Georgetown Vt. It only works in DA, the gun is extremely dirty but otherwise in good overall shape. I understand CAI does (or Did) DAO conversions for PD use. what do I look for or need to replace to make it DA/SA again? Thanks!

If it has CAI markings on it, that would mean that CAI imported it (probably from Canada, IIRC Ruger sold a bunch to the police (RCMP?) up there and now they are filtering back into the US). If you want to convert it back to SA/DA then get a replacement spurred hammer and replace the DAO hammer. Should need very little fitting for it to work. You might need to do a bit of polishing on the trigger sear to get it to match up with the hammer but that should be all.

I apologize for not including this in the original post but it has a spurred hammer. The changes are internal as far as I can tell, just not sure what.

The hammer on the DAO has the cocking notch removed. Getting a new hammer with the cocking notch allows single action to work assuming the tolerances are ok with the trigger.
On my GP's, SP's and Sixes I have managed to get the DA/SA hammer to work on previous DAO versions.

I have one of the CAI guns re imported from Canada. It had the spur type hammer with the full cock notch filed. I just replaced the hammer with one off e bay and it worked perfectly. No fitting needed just dropped it in.
