As I get older I know I have become more cynical. I was reading a post on Facebook by the be of my former employees at the company that I retired from 11 years ago. She was praising her staff on some company celebration and my first thought was “How ridiculous to get so excited to make more money for the owners who would toss you aside in a heartbeat if they thought someone else would make them even more money!”.
I walk my dogs, ride my motorcycles, occasionally go to the range and do a little volunteer work with fellow veterans. Just filling the days as I get closer to the end. How much does any of this really matter? I still enjoy some things but see less and less reason to give a damn about much of anything. Nihilism is overtaking me if not outright cynicism.
