Are Doc Barranti and Graveyard Jack the only custom holster makers? I've tried El Paso Saddlery and Bianchi Frontier Gun Leather and when I tell them my wants, they decline saying they can't make anything they don't have a pattern for.

I did find one who gave it a shot, and while he did good work, hes inexperienced in making holsters.

Doc's work is worth the wait.

But I understand what you are saying. Locally, we have a shop, "Jackson's Western Store" that has a full custom leather shop. It's in Asheville. I believe they can do as a customer wishes.

Try Corkscrew Tom at TPG-Leathers.com on Facebook. Cowboy shooter and all around good guy. In the photo album the holster with the Longhorn is mine. Does good work, and will try about anything.

Have you tried lobogunleather.com?
I've got this one made by lobogunleather which I really like.

I usually make my own so I can keep an eye on the idiot making it. Here's a couple of Hybrid shoulder/OWB that I made 30 years ago and the Miami style harness I made. I also have the mockups for the Max 9 Hybrid Shoulder/OWB and Pocket/IWB. I'm debating what to carve on them. Classic Western floral swirl or Oak leaves. What does everyone here think?

Got the knife work done. Next all of the tooling, staining etc. Then I'm going to melt wax into the back of the front carved sections to stiffen and keep them flat then the sewing and finishing!!! If I was charging for all this they would cost more than the guns!!!

I'm definitely not 1/10th as good as I used to be. I think my crappy dogwood flowers would look better as poinsettias.

Well I just got another excuse for another Custom Holster. It's a Custom Bond Arms in 357sig. It should be able to hurl Lehigh's at close to 2,000fps. +P+ should be no problem in this. I'm planning on a horizontal OWB belt holster carved in Western Gothic. I figure I'll carry crossdraw or appendix once I get it done.

I find your choice of decoration somewhat morbid. Why the skull motif?

Bob Wright
I was trying to decide between Western Floral and Oak Leaves. While searching through various designs I stumbled across Western Gothic. I found it entirely different than anything I had seen and really like it. I'm not into my creations being normal and pedestrian. My saying is This is my (Rifle, Pistol, Shotgun, Motorcycle, Car, Boat etc) there ain't nothing like it anywhere. This one is mine because I Made It. Anyone can buy the same stuff off the shelf with the same old designs everyone else and their brother has. Just like my holster designs themselves. I figure out how I want it to work and make it real. As far as I know nobody else has homed in on Cargo Pocket Carry for middling compact pistols. Now I can carry 2-3 times the pistol with no additional wardrobe discipline. I don't live in the Wild West where my hog leg rig wouldn't get unwanted attention and I don't want to deal with dressing around a gun all the time. The skulls are a little much for some I suppose but then I'm a little much myself. They really make the design I carved really pop. The poinsettia were kind of a happy accident. They were supposed to be Dogwood flowers but I really pooched those up and painted my dogwood flowers red. I'm looking forward to picking up my Custom Bond Arms. I'm going to make a Horizontal OWB thumb break holster for crossdraw/driving/ appendix carry. The skull and flowers will really set it apart. Life's too short to wear boring leather.

Latest progress. It's going to be my ultimate hybrid. Horizontal/Vertical/Shoulder Holster

If we are speaking truely custom, here's one a fellow made up for me. I haven't seen anything like it elsewhere. We talked through the design and he executed it perfectly.
vthFbdJ.jpg

It rides horizontally on the belt in a cross draw position.
The gentleman that made it is Tom Anderson. Last I heard he was still doing leather work. I can provide contact info if anyone is interested.

Why horizontal?

I have a Bond Arms Snake Slayer that came with a Bond Arms brand holster and it's supposed to be worn horizontal. It isn't a custom holster, just one of the factory holsters.

I'm just curious if horizontal is a thing for those smaller pistols. And why would it be?

Those custom holsters are pretty cool though. I really like the skulls. Kind of a Mexican Day of the Dead motif.

It rides right along the belt line. Comes easily to hand and being so small it just feels right. I carry this daily at about ten o'clock. I'm a southpaw and my primary is also a crossdraw. Spare ammo for the primary rides behind the primary.

I'm thinking it might primarily be shoulder carried. I'll see how the crossdraw driving position works out. I'm going with the skull as the central theme but more traditional western floral elements.

Cross works well from the driver’s seat. But in that case I draw with my right hand.

For those concerned about crossing my body with the muzzle, done properly only the seat, dash and door are swept.
