The Vaqueros now being made are on a smaller frame than their predecessors. I often see a comparison to the Colt SAA's made when describing them.

Will these Vaqueros afford a nice fit in holsters crafted for Colt SAA's?

Many Thanks - A12

The New Vaquero is about a waste of time to me, its like they reduced the size just enough to exclude the 44 Magnum cartridge. There is a cylinder length difference. A man's size cylinder -vs- a boy's cylinder.

The Handling difference, physical size, and actual couple of ounce weight difference betwixed a 4 5/8 Vaquero of the 44 mag and the 44 Special species amounts to almost a joke.

I guess its fairly representative of life though, the hell for stout real Vaquero and the "New". Thank God Almighty the 44 Special is called "Vaquero" void of the diluted word "new"...Amen

They do fit 1873 Holsters though.

Each (obviously) has their own opinion.... But the medium frame New Vaqueros and flattop BHs suit me right down to the ground. In a nice handy package (feels great in the hands) and good to tier 2 loads if necessary. Do just about everything that needs doing around here.... really doesn't get any better. The large frames (and I have several) seem a bit clunky in comparision (yes, subjective). Guess you could say, I am most glad that Ruger came out with the New Vaqueros in .44Spec and .45 Colt (and even the pea shooter .357 50th). As for man vs. boy ... well the the .45 Colt has been on the job since 1873, and I doubt very much you couldn't say it hasn't been up to it, whereever it was used. The little .429 wasn't even a twinke yet on the horizon... Even in modern times it equals and surpassing the little brother .44Mag when needed ... say in Africa ;) . And of course the .44Mag will always be the 'wanna be' little brother... .451 vs .429 .... :D . Sorta, like little Joe Cartwright and Hoss.... Both are deadly, but litte Joe, just can't ever be as big and imposing as Hoss....

There is no "New" Vaquero in 44 special, just a smaller Vaquero...In Jesus name I give thanks...Amen

Better read up on your 1872 45 Colt in comparison with the 1870 44 Russian.

I just ordered a New Vaquero .357 (GSS) 5.5" barrel from Bud's. It'll be a great addition for my 3 screw Blackhawk .357.

Probably will order the Rio Grande belt & holster rig from El Paso Saddlery.

Lookin' forward to shooting a new hunk of six-shooter wheelgun iron, after purchasing poly frame semis (Rugers & Kahrs) for the past 15 years.
