Not exactly my cup of tea. Always thought blued went with walnut and plastic with ss. This configuration leaves me a little cold, but to each his own. Also offered in 22LR.

Inexpensive?? I can load my 223 and 221 fireball cheaper than 22 mag right now and will they throw in a few bricks of long rifle if you buy one? :)

I wish the walnut stock had been available when I bought my 77/22V instead of only the plywood. :(

But list price of nearly a grand? I guess I'll be living with the plywood a few decades longer.

Wonder if the stock will be available separately at a remotely reasonable price.... :?

You got that right pharmer. I bought a new 77/22mag a couple of months ago. It was a non cataloged gun that was shipped from Ruger with an 18.5 inch barrel. Blued in a synthetic stock. Probably a "clean up" gun. Anyway, I was astonished to see just how handy the short barrel makes the gun to carry. My chrono shows that it gives up NOTHING in terms of velocity to any other longer lengths. It does make holding steady with offhand shots a bit more difficult though. And, it is a bit louder.

More than those lengths and velocity gain actually decreases as friction slows the bullet after the peak pressure curve descends.

Nice rifles though. Priced a bit high for the package but if hand-selected wood were available, I'd bite.

All true, but velocity isn't everything, all the time. :wink:

I love the "hang" and balance of my heavy, long-barreled 77/22V. :wink: The looks of it, too.

And there's no denying that a 24" .22 barrel is quieter than an 18" one. This can be an important factor, sometimes.

Like dispatching pecan marauding skwirls without disturbing the neighbors? :wink: A CZ Trainer (24" barrel) is remarkably quiet with CB longs. The bandits just fall out of the trees...
