First of all I'm 77 years old, and have seen prices on fire arms go higher and higher in years, But for the last couple of years the prices have gotten so high it's stupid to buy them, does any one else think the same as I do??

Hi,

I agree with you, Chuck, but it appears much of this is simply market pressure. Many factors are involved: political uncertainty, fear of crime, the often seen "human nature" response I can only describe as "I better buy this (gun, house, car, bar of soap) because they're never going to make any more of 'em." So folks rush out to pay $1500 for $750 guns, $300k for $150k houses, and so forth... Some of the fears are real, some imagined, others a mix of both factors, whipped to a frenzy by the "sky is falling" crowd.

Most of these things tend to self correct as the latest "scare" passes, and you've probably noticed both availability and prices on firearms have started to get a little better in the last six months or so. Many of the firearms I might be interested in are actually back down to "just about normal" prices... but then what interests me isn't exactly the latest, greatest black Tupperware wonder gun, either!

Now if the .22LR ammo market would respond in the same way, there would be a lot of happy campers here!

Everything is getting higher. Buy any bacon lately??? Actually when it comes to used guns the market seems to have softened some. That's not really possible with new guns. Although some of them have come down and I'm not sure if that's because dealers are over stocked (which is what I believe) or they are able to buy them better (which I would seriously doubt). Either you need a new gun or you don't. Most people I believe are pretty stocked up. I'm not as old as you but I've been thinking I've got more guns than I can use for the life I've got left. Especially hunting guns. Been letting a few go here and there. Would rather have the money.

Raw materials benifits electricity everything is higher. 100 bucks at the grocery store
10 years ago and now. It is terrible. To bad our wages are not keeping up. Fact is
we are all getting poorer each and every day due to the shrinking buying power of our dollars.
Unfortunately that is a fact. ps

You nailed it right there. Value of the dollar is going down pretty quickly.

Yes, firearms are exspensive. Buy wisely. I do not want the Gov't in on this. Sales go down, prices go down. Etc.. My Uncle had 3 guns that covered everything he might need to, or want to, shoot. A Ithaca M37 16ga, An Enfield by Winchester 30-06, and a Colt .38. Who here ownly owns 3 firearms to cover all that he NEEDS ? Needs vs. wants, reality, etc.. Careful folks. Hey Chuck, for a point-of-view thing. I'm 20 yrs behind you, my uncle was 10 yrs ahead of you. That's how fast things can change.

I bought a new Super Blackhawk in 1972 for $125.00. The CPI inflation calculator tells me this would be $711 today (probably more like $850 true inflation). Brass Pro has them on sale for $650.

Nice cents a gallon, that maybe inexpensive. But depends upon how much money you were earning or weren't earning back then.

This has nothing to do with inflation. It's the devaluation of the dollar due to how many are being printed by this Socialist government, that has taken over.

+1

The devaluation of the dollar IS the cause of rising prices thus less buying power every day/week/month/year
One reason a forward thinking will buy hard goods like guns & ammo that tend to INCREASE rather than DECREASE over time thus balancing things out a bit

Even at my very young 51 years (HA HA) I have not seen the price of guns or ammo go down (should not be any different for anyone unless they way overpaid)

I do not see prices going down, sad but true

Bear Paw, you may not realise it, but you have nailed it exactly. The definition of inflation is the devaluation of the money compared to actual value. Inflation is only the measure of value using the numerical definition of the money. this is how and why there is a real difference between price and value of anything. We all can cite examples of inflation during our lifetime since our current inflation situation began with the policy set in 1913 with the Federal Reserve formation, deliberately intended to inflate our currency.

Yes inflation is a deliberate policy of the government to benefit the Socialist-Bigger Government goal of the Democrat party. By the way, perhaps some on this site have noticed that the Democrat Party, by its desire, now calls itself the Socialist Democrat Party.
