Correct box for 1974 Security Six

Unless I'm mistaken, (and I could be as I'm not an expert on these models,) I do believe they came in the one piece, hinged lid, reddish/orange box where the label end was printed on. They are also the flimsiest of the boxes ever used by Ruger.

Don't know when or how they transitioned to the chintzy red box, but I consider the white cut-out box to be also appropriate for a 1974 Security Six.
The hand-marked number on the end of this box puts it squarely in the middle of 1974 production.

Could be either one. The white box guns are known up to 150-90725. The flimsy red boxes known serial number range is 150-86862 thru 151-36514. Red and Black hinged box's began around 151-26486. RENE

See? I knew my memory wasn't as good on these. I'd forgotten about the early white boxes.

I just picked up a very clean one, 150-54101, and thought a correct box would be nice to have.
But if they were numbered to the gun, the chance of getting the original is basically nil so I'll do without one.
I'll post some pictures soon.
Another question: were the "big grips" available on the low back guns?
If so, any source for them?

Welcome to the Forum.
Generally the boxes are not numbered to the gun. Only the outside "shipper" would be.
Grips other than the factory wood (like in WAYNO's picture) are not available or are at least scarce as hens teeth.

Just out of curiosity, what model do you have there? The most common is the 4" blue with Adj. sights and square butt, but at that time they were making blue or stainless, square or round butt, fixed or adj. sights, .38 or .357 and 2-3/4", 4" or 6" barrels.
