Contemplating my Flat Top........

Waiting until tomorrow to put the first rounds through my new Flat Top, but admiring it for the moment. I believe this is the best fitted Ruger Single Action I've seen yet. Fit and finish are very good, though not the high polish of the old Three Screw Supers. Don't really like the stainless hammer, may swap that out. But the trigger is one of the best stock triggers I've come across. The new Blackhawk Flat Top hefts much better, to me, that previous ones, and I've never complained about that. I hear a lot of palaver concerning Ruger's lack of quality control, but that is not evident in my gun. According to the empty case, my gun left the factory somewhere in 2013.

I have a few rounds of .44 Special loaded and will hie to the range first thing in the morning. Will let y'all know about the shooting, the proof of the shooting being in the pudding.

Nice gun and grips. The trigger/hammer on my new flattop is really rough so off it goes for an action job.

I love those mid frames! The second one I bought had a crooked front sight, but a free trip back home to Ruger fixed that up and had it back in under two weeks. Very happy with action, fit and finish on both!
Reduced trigger and hammer springs a bit to my liking and also swapped trigger to a blue grooved SBH on one and blue Bisley on the other. Montado hammers on both and wood grips. Also a Montado grooved forestrap grip frame on this one.

Another favorite mid frame, one of Lipsey's 510 .44 Vaq sheriff models:

44 Spl Vaquero 3 ¾” Sheriff Model, Colt ejector rod, Belt Mtn short, Colt-style base pin. Ugly web behind trigger radiused. Replacement Ivory grips and lock elimination. Standard blue Blackhawk hammer.

Funny thing about those grips. Back last November, I saw a Ruger New Vaquero for sale at a local gun shop. The gun was a 7 1/2" .45 Colt, one with the color cased finish, one of the early ones, and sported stag grips. The gun was being sold by a recently widowed lady; the gun having been a part of her late husband's collection.

So, I bought the gun, though not really into Vaqueros. After awhile I took the stags off and replaced them with the original style hard rubber grips, with the molded-in eagle. Sold the .45 on GunBroker.

And, as you might expect, I bought this New Model Flat Top Blackhawk in .44 Special and put these grips on it.

Having a pair of grips with no gun for them (temporarily) is sort of a standing joke between my wife and me.

Those grips fit great for not being made for that frame Bob. I resemble the remark on having grips waiting on guns. Pretty sure there's at least five sets of sambar waiting for a home right now and always looking for more.
