Consigned Mark III price?

Considering consigning my Mark III Target (5.5 inch, stainless) at LGS. Two years old, looks excellent, about 2k rounds.

I'm guessing about 60% new. Plus it's full of VQ, except extractor. I'll add 50% of that, as well as five extra (+2 orig.) mags and a Ruger holster at half.

That would put it about $400. LGS gets 15%, if they could sell at $425, I'd clear about $360. I have a full assortment of spare parts I think I'll Gunbroker, starting at half of cost.

No FFL fees and shipping make a consignment much easier.

Not sure yet I'll sell, just money is getting a little tight. I just think I might rather do a relaxed sale than a desperate one.

Ooookaaay, I'll put it this way:

What is an average price on a Mark III Target, stainless, about 2 yr. old, 2K rounds, 98% appearance?

What percentage would factor in on installed mods, like a VQ kit? On additional mags, holsters in EC?

I'm guessing about $350, and 50% of any "extras". Yes, no?

I tend to shy away from modified guns but .... that's just me. Since I'm left handed, the inclusion of a holster generally doesn't trip my trigger either as most are righty.

Ya never see used MKIII's around these parts so, I've no idea on the price.

Mods are generally worth zero (unless done by a big-name smith), and most will want the original parts as well (if they're smart). Nobody knows how good the gunsmith was or how careful the person was installing the parts. Plus, it will no longer be warranted by Ruger if anything goes wrong.

I generally won't buy a modified gun, especially a 1911.

I'd think about $300 for that gun including the mods, AND the original parts. Just my opinion ... probably not what you wanted to hear.

As an example ... Bud's has your gun for $404 shipped, so it would be about $425 OTD at most people's shop for a BRAND NEW GUN.

Would you pay $75 less for a used gun, with unknown issues due to mods, and risk not being able to get Ruger to service it ? Probably not, I'd guess. As above, I'd think $300 with all the goodies, maybe $325 absolute tops.

Generally, when you put money into mods, they're for YOU to enjoy, consider it lost/spent money because any knowledgeable buyer will discount them completely. I also wouldn't sell your take-off parts for the above reasons.

PS you may try selling the mags by themselves ... you can probably get about $60-70 shipped for the extra 5 mags if they're factory. Then sell the gun for $300 and you're out for about $370 .... not bad and close to what you wanted. The mags would probably sell here in 5 minutes.

Thanks. So I may be better off to consign it with the factory parts (which would have been included with modded gun), and Gunbroker the LCI plug and VQ parts. At least those could go plain 'ol Priority Mail.

I'd advertise the VQ parts and mags right here ... probably sell real quick, and consign the factory STOCK MKIII. I have a question though ... why not just sell the gun here as well ?

I bet all those parts would sell in 24 hours if they're priced right, and you'll probably get more piecing everything out anyway.

I'm not in a good FFL situation. No LGS wants to ship at good rate, or at all. Only shipping option I would have is the outrageous overnight. Better deal for buyer and me just to consign at LGS.

On gunbroker you can sort for closed auctions and see what people have paid. That will give you a very real price point.

Good luck,

Another thing, Why don't you just sell it local? Would you still need a FFL? Where I am anyone can sell anything to anyone. Better for the buyer to have a permit but not legally needed. No paper trail at all.
