I took a short trip to Colorado to visit my parents, sister and her family, and our son. My father asked if there was anything I'd like to do and, it being quite comfortable in South Carolina, I asked him to set up a single-day fly fishing trip in Rocky Mountain National Park.

We suited up in the cold.

Hit the stream. Notice I'm standing on an ice shelf.

Off to the stream where I pretended to remember how to cast.

I was fortunate to catch a small Brown Trout and my son landed a Brook trout.

A good time was had by generations of my family.

My son will visit us for Christmas and I've promised to try and get him onto some trout down here, likely on the Chatooga River.

Nice trip n pics, thanks ! Somebody was thinking big positive thoughts when they brought that net along ! That would do for fair-to-middlin' steelhead.

Thanks ya'll. We did have a nice time. My son will be here for Christmas and we'll get some fly fishing done in the Carolinas. Sure ought to be a little warmer.

Steve - Pretty sure he had more use for that net as a walking staff on the ice than for any fish in that little creek ;-)

That's a memory to cherish forever! Great times and great pics to have! Wonderful!

My daughter and I booked a fly fishing day in the Winter Park, CO area this past summer. We had to be there for a family wedding and I figured it was a great place to try fly fishing and makes some memories. It worked out well!

Hey did someone say Fly Fishing??? :D :D
Son and Grandson with Mt. McKinley in the background.
Summer fly fishing? Interesting. Might just have to try that.... Nice pics!

Note to Matt,
Yea in the CO. summer all you have to wear shorts "T" shirt and wading boots. None of those funny things on your hands required. :D Well the beer does get warm. :(
Does look like you had a COLD GREAT time

That stream you are in looks perfect kind to fish in. Currant not trying to knock you down or trees trying to eat your Fly.
Good looking Bow also.

Grayling are small but cool fish. I probably caught 25-30 in 3 hours

Beautiful area and outside Denali Park.

Now we have something to eat.

Hi,

What kinda rigs are you running there, Jim? Looks like about 20wt rods, full sinking lines and weighted flies, maybe? ;) I'd like to see how far April Vokey could spey cast one of them...

Well it was time to get serious and quit catching BAIT. We were staving to death with all that catch and release stuff.
Yea the rigs are deep running rigs one with remote controlled Violet with a touch of pink hand grenade. The other one has a half stick of fast sinking explosive red stick with a long fuse. :D :D
