I recently snagged this OM SBH with it's original grips and box. Not long afterwards, a Ruger MR3-BD brass grip frame came along as did a nice set of elephant ivory SBH grips. Just for grins and giggles I decided to see how a tri-color gun would look like so I dropped the gun, the grip frame and the grips in a pillow case, twirled it over my head for a few seconds and this is what fell out. Kind of a different look for the old war horse.

I wish these had Ruger medallions but since I have learned of the cloak and dagger intrigue of "factory " ivories versus home built I think I'll just stay with these plain old things so there is never any question.

Very nice!

Put the new version of the Ruger (black painted) medallions in those grips and should make for a great look. Besides, no ivory grips from Ruger ever for the dragoon style grip frame. I put a pair of medallions in a pair of Super Blackhawk sized stag grips and was quite pleased.

No matter what you do or do not do, that is a fine looking Super.

Hey good point SATCOM about no factory SBH ivories! Just not sure I am brave enough to drill a set of ivories like these. Knowing my luck I would end up with 300 little shotgun bead front sight sized pieces!

Looks great Robb. Years ago I picked up on OMSBH from a pawn shop north of Houston dirt cheap. Well worn even with what looked like the dents in the bottom of the grip frame ala hammer but mechanically tidy as most Ruger's are, even well used ones. I took it to Harton on a refinish inquiry and he politely replied, "you do not want to pay me what that thing requires". He then gave me the pointers on doing it myself, the method, the grits to use, etc. He also suggested a guy in Texas City for the bluing that did good work cheap, if brought in ready to go. I probably spent an easy eight hours working on it trying hard to keep it all flat while fitting ivory micarta grips as well. I dropped it off in Texas City and the gent, who built pretty nice custom rifles, said it looked good as is and he would dunk it for $40. It is the only OMSBH I own having Hartonized the other into a Bisley. Gave it a run in the field a couple of years ago. IMO the OMSBH is like a M94, every enthusiast should own at least one. Yours looks really, really nice.
