Went for an afternoon cruise today, probably going on 2 weeks straight that I've either went alone & had Callshot with me. Tonight was fun, seen lots of deer, shot several ground squirrels, got one big old rock chuck & got to try out a new pair of shoes on my 44 Ferminator gun.
This is the one that I just recently mounted an Ultra Dot red dot sight on, this thing really works...unless its bigger than the target, still I really like this thing.
Callshot decided it was his turn to drive, I had him by about 6-1, we stopped for a belly wash (soda) & he bought some sunflower seeds, we've been spitting mine for a month now, I was elated he finally bought some. He poured them in his coffee can & put them under the dash & opened my can! I shouldn't have been surprised.
As soon as we got into a remote area I started whacking squirrels, they flip real nice from that 240 gr HP running around 1250 fps. We spotted one critter & both of us thought it might be a badger, I put the glasses on it & it was a 10-12 lb rock chuck, had a hard time finding him in the red dot, broke the shot & hit a rock, I had held on the wrong spot thinking it was the chuck. He turned just a bit & I could see him better, this time he flipped when the big HP rocked his world.
I guessed it at 66yds, Callshot guessed it at 78 yds, we both stepped it off, I got 98 & he got 99. The old gummer was fatter than either one of us & maybe as ugly as Callshot. Took a few photo's & several scenery shots.
Got 7 ground squirrels, 5 of them fell down in a hole or in the lumber & I don't like sticking my paws down in dark places.

More beautiful, green, remote country.

This old homestead is one of my favorite places to pound squirrels.

The 44 Ferminator with new shoes, very nice English Walnut.

When Callshot eats his seeds its one at a time, a can full is good for about 9 years.

When he eats out of my can, which is almost daily, its good for about a week.

This old chap was rolling fat & almost made it another winter, the Ferminator really punched his ticket.

Is this some beautiful country or what, I've never seen it so green this late in the year, there's water everywhere, lots of ducks & misquiters that carry chainsaws! Saw one coyote as we started home but Callshot was too slow!

Covered about 60 miles.

Dick in the last picture, why is the chuck holding the Ruger in one hand and you in the other?

Hey Dick, looks like the old hillbilly that lives in that homestead came out in his overalls, to see what all the shooting was about. I see you had to give him some seeds for permission to hunt on his land. Not a bad trade.

Said it a million times before, you guys have way too much fun in the worlds biggest playground. Another great evening for you guys!

I've got to speed up my moving NW schedule. Just not getting there fast enough :) great pics and great shooting.

Zac, the dot did cover the chuck, thats why I shot the rock by mistake with the first shot. If a target or a critter is in plain sight its not a tough shot. If the critter blends in & is small at 100 yds then its a challenge!

Jeff, seeing some impressive deer, I think you could hit one...not sure about Barranti!

Dick

I swear by Ultra-Dots. I use the dot as a point blank when hunting, but sight the 12:00 of the dot exactly at 75 yards for my .22 and 45/70. Doesn't cover the target that way.

....Great shooting!

If you reach into a hole or a wood pile, maybe you can catch a snake (or vice-versa)!

THE UN-EMBELLISHED TRUE VERSION OF THE SQUIRREL SAFARI.

I have been busy for a few days and just when I get a spare minute, Dick calls and needs to go out on another safari. I have been loaned an i-pad from the credit union so I check the forum out but don't respond to long posts on it. My short finger makes too many mistakes. My high school English teacher stopped by the other day ( she died in 1979) and changed my creative writing grade from a one legged A (F) to a regular two legged A+.

Dick phones me and says, "I thought that you were going to take me out to Dry Valley." Therefore I had to go to Dry Valley and hold his hand, tend him, take his pictures and watch him spill seed shells in my truck again. :x Dick opened his can, Not Me, I drive, Dick shoots. I have seen him miss some shots because he can't concentrate on shooting and spitting seeds at the same time. He tried to hit a squirrel with a seed shell he spit at it. Then he has some phony excuse for missing. He can't estimate distance very well so I have to make him step it off. It is the only exercise he gets. We walked side by side and he got one more step than I did so he can't count either. When I was taking the photo of him with the chuck, I tried to get him to smile like he does when it is me in the photo. He wouldn't smile at all. Then he says that this is serious business. :o Next he says that I am as ugly as the chuck. I really don't mind being ugly any more. In fact I kind of enjoy it now. 8) 8) It keeps all the women away. I don't want to cause any divorces when I go out in public. :P He had me hold up one seed, and then act like I was drinking his seeds. That was all his idea and I just played along with it to humor him so he won't get upset and run tell his mommy on me again. When I spotted the coyote, I shut the truck off and bailed out, but it was gone in the tall grass and bushes. He says you never get much chance to get a shot at one of them, then he tells you-all that I am too slow. Just last week he was saying something like I am too fast. :? Talk about being slow. Once while waiting for him to shoot, I went home and shaved, got a cold drink and returned in time for him to make the shot. Then he said "I almost ran out of air before I got that shot away." That barrel chest of his is not known for it's lung capacity. Just before I left last evening, Mrs. Betty said to tell Dick "BINGO". That is her word for (B. S.) I did get some shooting last evening, but I think Dick has adjusted the sights on all of my guns so that they all shoot high.

Some things he got correct: It is really green, pretty and a great way to spend an evening with the right kind of company. We always say how fortunate we are to live here and do what we do. I know some of you readers would trade places with us if you could. AND THAT IS THE REST OF THE STORY.  Steve
