I have now fired a little over 2,000 rounds of assorted .22 LR ammo through my new to me Ruger Mk. II. Since getting my hands on some good magazines, shooting has been problem free. However, occasionally there have been instances in which the bolt would return to battery with a loaded round, but it would not quite return to battery. It would be slightly out of battery... just enough that the pistol would not fire. I would slightly retract the slide, let it go forward into battery and continue firing. Today I got a bright idea. Since I had some time before Thanksgiving dinner was served, I walked down to the Dollar Store and bought a can of brake cleaner. I disassembled my Mk. II and flushed the bolt thoroughly with the brake cleaner. A light spray of CLP and a wipe down with a soft cloth and the pistol was reassembled. Now... since I am not a genius, I of course had to fiddle around getting the little mainspring thing to go into the grip without the hammer/strut getting in the way. Once I got that figured out, all went very well. After dinner, I loaded up my S&W 625-2 and my Ruger Mk. II for a trip out to visit some church members. After the visit, I had fun with the S&W... which really is a superlative revolver. Then, I pulled out that pretty little Mk. II and tried it out with a new magazine I bought last Saturday at the gun show. Just 100 rds. later it was time to head home as the Sun was rapidly going down. That little Mk. II continues to amaze me with its accuracy, its reliability and its perfect function. I am currently keeping my eye open for one of the longer barreled Mk. II's, maybe a Government Target model or else one of the long tapered barrel Mk. II's that I could fit with a scope. Happy Thanksgiving!

Seems a lot of folks are going back to their Ruger Mk's or just discovering them. I bought a MK-I/Standard and a Single-Six in 1977 for the kids to learn with. Shot the fire out of them for about 5yrs. Then they laid in the safe for about 27yrs until I bought a MK-III. Now they are being used again by me and the grandkids. I missed the MK-II's altogether. Happy turkey day to you.
