Maybe? "Beware the beast" is the best I could do trying to remember those Latin classes of a half century ago. Gotta send that picture to my sister in law! We all know not to talk to her until we get a thumbs up at the bottom of that first cup. ;)

Actually Selena it is Cave Bestiam and it translates as beware of the beast. I looked up Cave Bestium and in Google this thread shows up first. But changing the spelling to Bestiam. You get the correct translation. Not Best beware.

Nice idea on the coffee cup though.

Thanks for noting the correct spelling, Kevin! Latin tends to take a beating in contemporary use, so lots of misspellings show up. Father Dom, the jovial little round Italian from South Philly, who was also about as scrappy as every other Italian from South Philly I've met, would have had someone's head on the chopping block for that one. He wasn't big on gender bending, ya know? Of course in 1963, I suppose not that many were... :oops:

No I don't want to sound like a know it all I wouldn't know Latin if I were in Italy. I thought it was worth noting is all.

Last week a friend of mine was having a hard time at work. I reminded him of the Latin phrase don't let the (you know who's) wear you down. And I would have to look that Latin phrase up right now also....

And I've suffered Cruzer Lou's spelling enough like y'all that I'm certainly not going to call anyone out for spelling.
