I paid $1400 + 2 parts=$1500, I thought I was getting a complete COLT. But the Frame and the Slide do not have the same serial number.

Should GI WWII Colts have the SN on the slide? Can't recall I've ever heard of that. I have a number of WWII Rem-Rand and Ithaca slides and none of them has a SN on it. Couple years ago I restored a 1924 genuine Colt and it didn't have the SN on the slide, either.

I don't see any SN on your slide at all, which I'm thinking is correct.

Yep war era Colts (as well as other years) have the last digits of the serial number on the back of the slide behind the firing pin retainer.

After the number, unknown, of field retros, and informal arsenal reworks, I don't see much to fuss about on this pistol, after all it is 70 years old(1941) and a survivor. Those early WWII issues are darn tough to find. Best of luck in your sale. 8) :wink:

Like Hawkeye #28 said above, finding a matching original would be difficult at best as this critter probably made severall passes through an arsenal for service being that old. Even at the field level some armorer could have been working on more at one time and got them switched.

To find a WW II GI .45 that is NOT a mongrel is rare, indeed. Most of them are battle veterans, and have been fitted with cannibalized parts from other 1911s... if not by unit armorers, then by one of the government arsenals after the war.

Some of us are lucky.... my Dad was issued a brand new Colt manufactured 1911 in 1943 and was allowed to buy it CHEAP at the end of the war. It is now in my posession, and is not for sale at any price.... my son has his eyes on it.
