Now that I've got your attention I have a question since I was not in the military. When I first shot an iron sight rifle I couldn't hit the broadside of a barn. It turns out that I was cross dominant. I found this out when I started shooting trap and skeet. My question is what happens if you get to boot camp having never shot a rifle before only to find out that you can't hit the broad side of a barn? How do they determine what your problem is? If it is cross dominance do they teach you how to shoot off-handed?

The Corps just sent you to sick bay, where they swapped your eyeballs so you could shoot with your right eye if your left eye was dominant.

you swap shoulders. its not hard. i shoot(shot) rifles left shoulder just fine.

When I went blind in my right eye about 20 years ago I taught myself to shoot with my left eye left handed. NO IT IS NOT THAT EASY TO DO. I did not have a problem qualifying in the military or Sheriff's Office shooting non dominant eye.

How well does this work for the average recruit?
I write right, throw right, shoot right shoulder, but bat and swing golf clubs left. Tough to rent clubs, however, when I try to use right hand clubs I feel like I'm tying myself into knots. Of course I am left eye dominant as well.

NO IT IS NOT THAT EASY TO DO. This is what I am thinking...but it can be done.

I went through basic in 1992 at Fort Bening. We had 2 guys who could not hit a bull in the @$$ with a base fiddle. One Drill Ssgt. Heltemes would take them to the range every night after our regular bull manure was done and work with them. One guy had never fired a gun in his life and the other was cross dominant. Both qualified and graduated though PFC Hooper had a bad accident when we were in Air Assualt at Campbell and got medically discharged. It was greusome
What's worse, or was, maybe they've changed, I shoot left always have. But upon entry into the service they insisted that since I wrote with my right hand I had to shoot right. If you've never been in the military you probably don't understand that you DO NOT disagree with NCO's while in basic. I did manage to qualify. But first rotation to qualifying at my first base I shot left and shot expert.

ASSuming you wear glasses (script or safety makes no diff), cover or blur the dominant eye lens and don't worry about closing that eye. There are very simple answers to many questions.

Hmm, I suppose that would work, but it might be hard to dig out the vaseline with incoming fire and all.

But then, with your dominant hand busy with the Playboy pictures, how do you shoot?
