How do you tell the difference between the stanard mini 14 and the ranch rifle ?

Ranch rifle has ruger rings with it that mount on the receiver.
The regular mini will have to have a side mount put on it to be able to mount a scope.

The standard mini has an adjustable peep sight on the back and no place to put rings for a scope.

the ranch rifles have a very small flip up peep sight that is only slightly adjustable (with a very small screw driver) and indents on the receiver for the rings....

They will all shoot minute-of-bad-guy at 100 yards.

I have shot both types of rifles and I thought they had very good accuracy.

My standard mini shot close to one inch groups. Notice that I said "groups". I do not think I was ever able to get all the slack out of the side mount. With it the groups were a shot or two down here and a shot or two up there about two inches, alternately every shot or three. Anyway a ten shot string (Let it cool a little between shots) would result in two distinct groups, each around an inch, or a 3+ inch single group, depending on your point of view. It was minute of coyote to 200 yards. I am not sure I ever shot it farther. Jack
