Nice shot, Doc! Prickly pears are one of those cacti that look like they never do anything, and aren't all that attractive doing it, then all of a sudden they get cleaned up, dressed up and made up like they're going to the ball and put on a real show! And just about that fast, too...

Do y'all have any of the big fat barrel cacti w/ the bright yellow thorns and red blossoms in the neighborhood? Those are another beautiful one when they wake up: love it whenever I get to see them in full bloom...

My favorite is ocotillo. When it blooms, it looks like some little elves ran around tying red crepe paper to the dark, olive-green stems.
