As a happy new owner of something Ruger does not offer (AR- family pistol) I'd like to have an optic of low power for testing loads on my NEXT build. I want to build a .300 Blackout version for which I can cast and powder coat my own slugs and test for accuracy. This will be a range gun as I can no longer hunt.
Eye relief is an issue of course. I've considered pistol scopes obviously but find the eye relief too long. A scout scope may be the answer, or even a shotgun scope with the diamond reticle style.
Wondering here if members may have a suggestion or ten for me. Yes the pistol shall have a forearm brace for my needs. I'd be willing to bet some others have had the same questions. But I cannot find reference to the discussion(s).
Thanks. Don

I haven't had good results with "pistol" type scopes. The FOV is too narrow and too difficult to "find" at times. I have a pair of 2.5 X "scout" scopes mounted on the rear sight base of a pair of Mausers. I think one is an old Tasco and the other is a BSA(both discontinued). Check ebay with a specific search criteria and you may find something affordable.

A cheap 4x might work for you but seriously a red dot should be more than adequate to 100yds. Plenty of decent ones for around $100 especially if you can find last year's model in clearance.

A friend has a couple of these one on his AR-10, one on his AR-15. He uses them to shoot steel out to 375 yards on his land. I think you might like one. Low Power Variable Optics are cool.
Amazon product ASIN B01C7XCHXU Edited to Add: These are not long eye relief. I don't know if that will be an issue or not.

Yeah eye relief can be a big deal. You won't be using it with your arm extended.
