Anyone know if Brownells 1911 7 round mags will work in an sr1911. I would like to have a couple more 7 round mags, but my shooting budget wont allow me to spend $30 each on Ruger mags.

The one 'n only SR1911 that I've ever shot was a NIB example which belongs to my Son in Law. Right out of the box, it ran 100% with every mag we tested it with...including...both factory mags, a couple of USGI mags, a 25 year old Pacmeyer, 3 different (new) Metal Form's and one old unmarked mag which I've had so long that I don't remember where I got it.
Ammo used was Winchester and Federal hard ball, plus a 50-round box of steel-cased Tullo....altogether, about 250 rounds. Also note that with the exception of the Ruger 8-Rnd mag, all the others were "standard" 7-Rnd capacity.

Those results perty-much mirror my experience with any good 1911-type pistol, so your SR should do the same. If it don't, you have some sort of a gun problem.....not a mag problem.

I have a feeling I posted an answer to you before or elsewhere...but whatever...I bought half a dozen. They would not drop free in my SR1911, which has absolutely no problem with half a dozen or more different manufacturers' 1911 magazines - only the Brownells mags wouldn't drop free. It's the first miss I've had with Brownells in four decades.

I can verify that they didn't drop free in my SR1911. I used to own 6 of the Brownell's magazines, and returned them.

I have four of the Brownell's 8 round mags. They work just fine in my SR1911 Commander.

The issue is to be able to drop the slide on a empty magazine. Drop free was never brought up. I state again Brownells magazines function 100% in my SR1911.

I spent the extra $$$$$$$$ & invested in a couple of Virgil Trips Cobra mags. Now talk about magazines that will function with any & all Ammo without a hiccup. I understand that these are the mags that the L.A.P.D. SWAT team carry in their 1911's on& off duty guns. that was good enough for me.
