Getting ready to sell some of dad's guns. I have the above mentioned gun with a properly marked extra magnum cylinder. The 2 piece gold wreath box is not numbered to the gun. The end states "SINGLE-SIX" 6 1/2 Bbl. 22 W.M.R.

Is the the correct box?

does the gun have a 6 1/2 inch barrel????or "RSSM" ??? only the shipping sleeve ( outer cardboard wrapper would denote if it was a "convertible" or an "X"...they used the same RSSM box for the early "Magnum" only, as well as the later 6 1/2 in convertibles....the marking was done with white china marker so may have gotten rubbed or wiped off ( cleaned??) "spare box"?? if only they could talk..........;)

The barrel is a 6 1/2. The extra cylinder is correctly serialized , ie matched 3 digits I suspect it is an RSSMX

All 6-1/2" barreled Single-Six boxes were marked RSSM, .22 WMR right up through the end of the old models. Ruger never printed a separate RSSMX two-piece box. There was a short run of boxes printed in error with the .22 Long Rifle line, but this happened for a very short time in 1968 only, coincidentally (or not) at the same time Ruger also printed some Super Single Six boxes model SC6 with the line .22 WMR.
