I read somewhere that it's not a good idea to use the bolt release to allow the first round to chamber. It went on to say that the first round should be loaded by pulling back the bolt and letting it fly forward. Is this true? Is it not a good idea to use the bolt release for the first round? Something to do with a metal part being damaged.

So the internet says.
Actually the manual never states it is bad to use the bolt stop to chamber a round. It says to chamber a round slingshot one in, but that assumes that the bolt is closed when the magazine is inserted.
If the magazine is inserted with the bolt open. Which for me is like 99% of the time, I just hit the bolt release button.
If it wears, it wears.
Ruger can replace it.
I ain't changing the way I have been chambering guns for 30 years.
They put the bolt release button on the dang gun, use it.
