Blackhawk Bisley, SS, 5.5" Convertible!

OK! Don't know if I paid too much or not. But, this morning, I bought a new Blackhawk, 5.5" Bisley, Stainless Convertible, for $579.99 +tax. It came to just over $624 out the door.

I was looking to get a new Blackhawk in stainless, or blue if I could find a good deal on one, and there was this 45 Bisley. I'd never held a Bisley before, so I thought I'd try it. Wow! It was eons more comfortable to the hand than the standard Blackhawk grip. Just hope it's as comfortable when I shoot it.

Don't know if I'll ever use the .45ACP cylinder, but, one never knows.

Anyway! How'd I do guys? Good, bad, indifferent?

That is what I paid for NIB about 1-2 yrs ago.
When I was looking for one, I don't remember seeing NIB for less.
Used ones can be cheaper if you get lucky.

I got one of these a few months ago (SS Bisley .45 Colt/.45 ACP Convertible). I reamed the cylinder throats of both cylinders, had a trigger job done along with modifying the pawl for a free spin pawl.

Now, my Convertible is extremely accurate with both cylinders and is a keeper in every sense of the word. This is definitely a "Cut above the crowd" revolver and works beautifully "From mild to wild!"

Well, I picked it up today. Looked it over again before accepting it, and all looked just fine. I hope to get out this weekend and try it out. Can't wait. But, it'll get here soon enough.

Didn't get any ammo for it at the store. The only ammo they had was Winchester CB, and Winchester self defense, the new stuff. And they were very proud of it I must say. :!:

Went by WallyWorld and got some of the Winchester CB for about $8 less a box, $32 vs $40. Went by two other gun shops and Cabella's, drew a zero. Is 45 Colt really that hard to get? I thought the crisis was over. :? Everyone has all kinds of everything now. Except, it appears, 45 Colt!

What's a good plinking ammo for those who don't load our own? I think I might have to reconsider and start again.

Well, I'll post again after I get out and "kill" me some paper!

IMO, there is no good commercial "plinking" ammo in .45 Colt. Everything I've found available is nearly $1/round, even "cowboy" loads.

Bass Pro here usually has some Remington Cowboy loads for about 60 cents a round. I had good luck with Reed's ammo online ordering before I started reloading

My .45 Bisley was one of the first batch without the .45 ACP cylinder. I do have .45 ACP cylinders for several NMBHs. They have all been modified for .45 AR. I shoot a lot more .45 ACP and .45 AR through them than .45 Colt.

Run, don't walk, to your computer, make a basic list of reloading equipment and send in your order.

RELOADING is the answer (at least the first part). After you get comfortable with reloading, the you can "drop the second shoe" and order out a bullet casting outfit.

You will control your own destiny (at least the shooting part), do a LOT more shooting for the money and walk around with a perpetual smile on your face!

Agree totally with Dale; big-bore handguns, especially the .45 Colt, are a lot more fun and versatile if you reload. Casting your own bullets is just frosting on the cake!

And I concur... reloading is the only way to enjoy a .45 Colt or a .44 Special.

The cylinder is trimmed to headspace the .089” rims of .45 AR. The cylinder is then just like those of the S&W 625 series. It shoots both .45 ACP and .45 AR.

Well, I took it to the local indoor range today and put 100 rounds of Winchester CB loads downrange. Once I got a used to the gun, and threw out the one worst flyer from each group of six, I was getting a little under 2" groups at about 10 yards. Not the best in the world, but not too shabby. When I put the range out to about 15 yards, the groups were still almost the same. Surprised me too! Couldn't go much further as the range is rather small.

But, I really enjoyed shooting it. Didn't try any ACP ammo as I didn't have any. That'll come next time.

I also came to the conclusion that I really must, at a minimum, start reloading for the .45 Colt.

I spent the rest of the time shooting my 9mm Hi-Power practical and some .22 pistols. Had a good time with those as well. But, I simply enjoy shooting.

Well, I guess I'll close this and update at a later time.

I know, I can import one but that is out of reach at the moment.

Nice picture..........I'm waiting for mine to come in and can't wait to shoot it. I don't have any .45 Colt ammo but saw some at the gunshow today. Should have gotten a box or two. There was a dealer with Georgia Arms ammo and I should have looked to see if they had any darn it. I do happen to have a case of .45 ACP which is what I'll shoot in it for now. I don't reload so I'll probably shoot .45 ACP most of the time.

If I like this Bisley I may have to get another (and not have to switch out the cylinders.........lazy that I am)!!!!!!!!!!!!

Here is a picture of the first outing with my .45 ACP cylinder in the SS Bisley Convertible:

It was bitter cold this winter and I was shooting indoors at fifty feet off a makeshift rest. This was with a target load with the MiHec #68 200 gr SWC and 4.0 grs of Bullseye (or equivalent).

I hardly gets better than that.

My hat is off to you Dale. A six shot one hole group. I thought the elusive one hole group was not possible, but I see you have found it. Very fine shooting. No it is outstanding. I have tried for that one hole group all my life and the older I get the farther it gets away from me. Trying for it is still fun though.

Try the ACP cylinder. Mine is wonderfully accurate with standard 230 Gr. Ball. Cheaper to shoot until you start reloading.

If you want to really put a smile on your face, reload and practice until you can put a cylinder full of 300Gr. LBTs propelled by 22.0 or so grains of H-110 (about 1200 FPS) into a deer killing size target at 60 yards or better! Robert
