I just got a stainless NM Blackhawk. Are the KXR-3 frames the same size as the XR-3 frames? The reason I'm asking is because I need to get some wood grips for it.

Almost all New Model Blackhawks use the XR3-RED profile grip frame. THe only ones that don't are the 50th Anniversary Blackhawks and the 44 Spcl Blackhawks. The "New XR3" grip frames have no markings on them.

The SAA Colt emulating Ruger XR-3 ('53-'62) style was reintroduced, in steel, in '05 on the New Vaquero and the 50 th Anniv. .357 Blackhawk.

These grip frames are characterized by a "straight" back strap profile.

...but the frame thickness was reduced to 7/16" from 1/2" and the pin location was moved slightly. I've found that grips for the New Vaquero can be made to fit the OM XR3, but the opposite is not necessarily true.
