Bisley SS 45 Colt

I found a used 5 1/2" 45 SS Bisley last week and scooped it up after verifying it had the ACP cylinder also. Have a batch of med-heavy loadsready to test. How do others like their Bisley converts?

I enjoy mine! I've worked up some medium loads for it and it is quite accurate! I won't scope it though. And the ACP cylinder i treat as a plinker....Fun well balanced sixgun.

Best hunting rig Ruger makes and it should be a cataloged item. I'll leave mine with open sights also. You grabbed a good one!

Mine is used and has a higher post front sight installed. I plan to test it later this week. staring with 9gr Unq & 250 FP. Have a modified cross draw hoslter , belt and loops to match.

I prefer to leave my SA's without a scope. However, if you meant scooped it up as in quickly aquiring it, then I understand as well. Ahh, enough of this language thing, how does it shoot?

Like mine, shoots great. Just could never get used to the Bisley gripframe and hammer. Swapped out Bisley parts for a standard plowhandle gripframe and standard hammer & trigger. Now I love it. it's been my daily CCW for the past three years. Use it for Bullseye and Bowling Pins too.

I got mine last year along with a couple of friends (we kind of did a "group buy" - we each bought one, the same time, from the same dealer). I had to open the cylinder throats on all six cylinders. The throats were undersize and the guns leaded badly. However, after I reamed all six of them (with a "made for the job" Manson Reamer kit with pilots) they ALL shoot extremely well and we get NO leading whatsoever.

I reamed them to the standard .4525" and they work perfectly with .452" cast bullets.

The O.P. has one of the most practical field handguns EVER!

I shot mine last friday and was extremely pleased. 250FN/9-Unq grouped very good and was pleasant for a med heavy load. Tested the ACP cylinder and was shocked as 8 of ten rounds cut a hole the size of a golf ball, all offhand with no recoil. Question to all, mine has Ruger rosewood with Ruger emblem on left grip and buffalo head on right grip. Anyone else have these?

Just to add to the desirability (as if any desire NEEDED to be added) here are pictures of my favorite bullets for the SS .45 Colt Bisley. These are a clone of the RCBS 45-270-SAA bullet in both solid and hollow point from Mihec's moulds:

I have several of the Mihec moulds for this bullet - multi-cavity for solid points and a two cavity Cramer style bullet mould for hollow points (Mihec also makes a four cavity hollow point Cramer style mould).

Put these bullets together with a SS Bisley Ruger .45 Colt and you have a WINNING combination.

I'm stuck on the 4 5/8" barrel length, so I had to go the customized route for my stainless .45 Bisley.
