Member Gooseman179 has an excellent pattern in his Bear Paw Grips. I find them more comfortable and better in recoil management than anything else I've tried on a Single Action. I have both Bisley's and "Regular" ones from him.

Here is a set made by Cary. I can highly recommend him. I believe he will only do Bisley grips i you send him the frame.

While not a Bisley these are Bearpaws from Gooseman179 as I mentioned above. Took about 5 minutes to install. While all the best makers would like to have the actual frame they are going on for BEST FIT since there are some variations in them, I guess it depends on what you really want. If you want a REAL SHOWPIECE, Fitting by the maker probably required. If you are happy with a good serviceable upgrade that will give your piece some individuality from everyone else's, buying a set from any of the makers around here and installing yourself should be fine since as far as I know they all have "Pattern" guns of some sort that they work with. CaryC, Gooseman179, Sgt Schultz (if he is still doing them), 41Magnum and I am sure several others I am unfamiliar with all do excellent work. I had a set of CaryC's, not purchased from him, that just were not quite right for my hand but were true works of art. I have bought directly from Gooseman179 and 41Magnum, they were both very easy to work with, did their best to get me what I wanted (rather than this is what I got so this is what you get). Fast Service etc etc would buy from either again without hesitation.

Well the main problem I have with sending him my grip frame is I don't want to send him my grip frame ..Shouldn't have to send him my grip frame tell me if I'm wrong ,are not all bisley hunter grip frames the same are these not from a mold that should produce the same grip time after time ?

They should but there have been serious issues with variation between Bisley grip frames (as in serious enough for you to potentially be very dissapointed in grips not made for your frame). It is well worth the effort to send your grip frame in to whomever makes your grips for that Bisley, otherwise you are rolling the dice.

Understand your trepidation, but Ruger has in fact made small differences in the grip dimensions. So it's a question of how intimately you want your custom grips to fit. If you're ok with some degree of proud metal or overlapping wood, opt for "standard" grips I guess.

Now NO ONE can make a perfect fit for chump money, but I believe the makers mentioned herein will do yeoman work for a very reasonable fee. 8)

Want the run of the mill sorta fit then just order some from the many big name manufactured grip shops.
Early Bisley Grip Frames were (circa 80's) were ok. The last few years they are all over the place.
Stainless allways has run bigger the Blue.

I can tell you with 100% certainty that there is quite a bit of difference between grip frames. Bisleys vary dimensionally for sure and even the standard plow handles vary but to a lesser degree.
I have several bisleys and if I move grips from one gun to another there are noticeable differences between the frame and the grips. On one gun they fit perfectly, on the other I may have 1/16 to 3/23 of proud material on the grips. Shooting the grips in this configuration will make my entire palm numb within about 3 shots.
Your choice but I would opt for sending in the grip frame.

All observations above as to why custom grips grips must be finished to the gripframe are correct. Polishing & finishing probably is the most labor intensive part of building a decent revolver. Even with two grip frames from the same mold, slight differences after polishing will be evident. The grip spike arrangement brought to popularity by Warren Center on his Contender, and continued by Dan Wesson and Bill Ruger, eliminates costly manufacturing steps (while expanding grip possibilities).
Either a custom grip is custom, or it is a slap-on.

Damn didn't realize there was that much variation in the grip frames ,guess my only option is to live with what I have or send grip frame to a maker for fitting ..is ruger having to custom fit every set of grips they put on a pistol to get proper fit from factory?

It's too bad that LETT closed up.
Altamont has been the replacement vendor and what I like to call "Plywood" others call Laminate might look like fancy wood but they over sand & polish it, Round it off, No lines, nothing crisp at all....... it's works but it's not what it used to be. IMNSHO :wink:
