I have a little Vaquero in .45 Colt and a Spare Ruger Bisley hammer. Before I take it apart, will I need to profile the rear of the Bisley hammer to get clearance on the frame?

Yes, the Bisley hammer has a hump on the back that will need to be ground off to fit your birdshead frame. Just use your old hammer as the template to mark the Bisley hammer and bit of dremel and file work is all it takes.

The Bisley hammer on a birdshead frame makes a great combo. It looks great and feels better. It's my favorite Vaquero.

Honda did a great write up…

…and the picture of the 3 hammers shows,,, NOW is the time to correct the big hole, and have the hammer fit flush with the grip frame horns/ears.

I agree pictures always make a thread better…😁

Wow! Thanks for the nice pics. I really like the looks of the Bisley hammer. (Question: is that a 4 5/8" Lipsey's flat top with factory sight or DX sight base?)

It is a Lipsey's 45/45acp Flattop.
The front sight was changed out to self built blade that now been cut a tad lower than pictured, as I want to run this gun with 45 ACP/ Cowboy most all the time.
Birdshead, Super Montado Hammer, Dimpled ERB, #5 Base Pin & Knife Blade Trigger.

Probably should be noted that the Montado Hammer does have the different thumb serrations and is the same size of the Super Blackhawk Hammer,
However the Boss is truly NEW VAQUERO which is slightly different than the Super Blackhawk Hammer.
Many like to call them the same and while they will work between the platforms,,, the BOSS profile is different.

Did this swap some time ago. I re-curved the hammer rather than cut the grip. The trigger had to be trimmed just a very little to clear the trigger guard. BTW, that is a "flat top" Single Six.
