Bird experts

My neighbor and I are in different options as to what bird this feather came from. I live in central GA and have had a pair of Red Tail Hawks nesting in the same nesting tree in my back woods for the last nine years. I also have many Turkey in and out of the area several times during the year. Issac says it is a turkey feather and I saw it is from one of the young Red Tails. It is approx. 10 inches long, what say you experts??

Doesn't look like turkey to me. Think turkey feathers usually show some brown tones.

I found a feather in by backyard where I'd seen a hawk, but couldn't see it well enough to ID it. From the feather I could tell it was a red shouldered hawk.
Actually yours looks a lot like a red shouldered too.

What if you find it on your own property and you don't want it on your property? What if you don't want errant feathers messing up your nice property? What are you supposed to do with it?

Are you supposed to call a game warden to come and pick it up? Then what does he do with it?

I dunno. But I know of a case years back where a kid who was an aspiring taxidermist picked up a roadkilled owl and mounted it -- quite nicely, too -- only to have someone rat him out to the wildlife folks. No prosecution, ultimately, but scads of hassle, and he had to give up the owl. Stupid situation, for sure.

I read through the rules, but am I not in possession of this feather by the fact it is on my property, period. I sure don't want the storm troopers knocking down my door and shooting me or my dog. I have taken this feather right back to the rock I found it on, I have a photo to prove it. I'll give the hysterical society a call and tell them to remove it at once.

Tell them you want it removed with no damage to your property. No foot prints, broken plants or any evidence that they were ever there.

You need lots of those, and some crow and goose feathers, so they will cover the hawk feathers, er, I mean, turkey feathers, that are in the bottom of the cigar box.

It's from a wild turkey. I've been bagging 'em for years. They taste kind of like spotted owl.
