Big day yesterday-sore today

It's getting to be "that time of year" when everything seems to be a high priority and some of those things really need to be addressed.
Tom brought home a load of fertilizer Friday evening to spread on Saturday because the wind was supposed to be calmer. He also commented that he'd decided we're going to south MO to negotiate a dealership in some sort of innovative goat feeder and bring home a couple of trailer axles Monday instead of Tuesday. SURPRISE, that meant that I had to pull a wheel off the big flatdeck trailer so we could take some measurements AND he had to be finished with his spreader before noon so we could make it to the tire shop before they closed.
We did make that connection at the cost of me taking an hour tractor ride(that I was not dressed for) to get back home. So the tractor is warmed up, why not change the engine oil? OK, I'm slimy so may as well change the hydro filter, too. There's oil and filters so while one is draining, I'll just warm up another and change it while I'm dirty. Before that's done, Tom showed up with oil to change the hydro on the self propelled sprayer. That was a long process since it takes like forever to drain 20 gallon of oil through a 1/4" hose. While we were waiting on that, we took the new GPS guidance unit for a test run.
After all that, we loaded the "goat chute"(holds the critters for vet work) on his trailer so he could move it home.
Maybe a bit much for one day.

Yep ..... mowed the yard yesterday and found snow on the ground this morning!

I went out to check last night before going to bed and didn't see any flakes. Radar showed it was snowing but it wasn't reaching the ground.
I got another oil change under my belt this morning. Have run out of oil for the big JD's so that's on hold. I used to keep ONE engine oil for everything but cost has caused some compromises with that program. The big horses get the JD branded oil while the smaller multi-color tractors can live with commercially branded(probably from the same refinery tank) properly rated oil.
I can buy Rotella or DelVac 15W40 turbo-diesel rated oil for 1/4-1/2 the cost of JD Torq-Gard.

JD oil? I remember those days but mostly for us MFA was the one stop go-to for lots of stuff. That and a local "farm store" in Canton.

If you can get a JD dealer to cut you a break maybe buy the Torq-Gard in 55 gallon drums.
I think JD still has a twice annual truckload oil program for their dealers with pretty good pricing
and freight covered if they participate. Maybe get one to pass some savings on if you took
a drum or two.

Yes, that's correct. My problem is handling the barrels. I used to have a barrel rack that held 30 gallon engine oil and 55 gallon hyd oil barrels. After a big storm crushed that corner of the shop, I didn't replace the barrel racks. I don't even buy 5 gallon buckets these days-- 2.5 gallons is my lift limit.

Yesterday was another long one although not very strenuous. Left home @ 5:30AM and got back @ 9:45 PM---650 miles +/-. I didn't have to drive so got to "farm" (sightsee)all the way. Went through some places I hadn't ever been or hadn't been for 1/2 century.
Acquired a new goat feeder, an entire tandem axle trailer suspension, and 15 like new take-off replacement tire/rim assemblies for a couple of grain trailers. Little 1/2 ton Chevy had a load on some of those south MO hills but even so, I think he said the trip averaged 16-17 mpg.
Kids got to see their first armadillo(s)--big day in their lives even though the critters were a little squashed.
