Best smart phone apps

Pandora is a good one if you like music. I use some simple ones like Brightest Flashlight, Youtube, Angry Birds for my Granddaughter, Easy Phone Sync for my iTunes music, Calendar which syncs with my Google Calendar, Navigation and maps instead of a GPS, Speedview, and so it goes. I have so far only used FREE Apps. These things are handy as heck and used correctly, they make your life easier.
 
Samsung galaxy s 4g aviator. Got the flashlight, three different comapss, bible,language translator........

I'd like to get a gps app without agreeing to their agreement that it can be traced.
 
RedLaser is good for shopping.
But seriously, my Verizon Android sucks out loud. Sad little interface, and after a trip to Verizon and help from the IT guy at work, it's still to be determined why it does 3G but not Wi-Fi. I'll take it back to Verizon once more, and then it's time to talk to my credit card company....fortunately it still functions as a phone.

Far more hassle than it's worth.

I have a shot timer app that works pretty well. I have the GunTalk app. I like the youtube app, it's fun when I sit around in airports.
 
Great free app is GroceryIQ...make a grocery list from your phone, either enter things by typing in the item, or you can scan a barcode...also it will sync with any one else in your household that you set up, so they can enter them on your phone, and the list will include everything when you go to the store.

If you want to get real fancy, you can rearrange the aisles to match your store, keep track of your running total as you go by entering the cost of things, and you can set up different stores if you want (Home Depot or Grocery etc...)
 
Kindle & Sudoku are my most-used apps on this Android.

Note to Jeff: Without wi-fi, you are missing 90% of the function of your phone. I'd bet dollars to donuts it's something simple as unchecking a box in a menu. This Android latches on to wifi driving down the street!
 
Coolest free app I have found is Call Control. It enables you to block any number you wish and also has an optional (still free) database of the numbers of "Do Not Call List " violators. It lets you know that a blocked number did call, and what the number was but does not let them know they are blocked or take messages. It also blocks annoying text messages. Got a wacko ex? Put her number on the block list. If she gets back on here meds you can take the block off.

There is also a free emergency medical app. I went into respiratory arrest last spring. At the hospital, I punched the app and my medical history and prescription list was right on the screen, just handed them my phone
 
I like the "bar code reader" app.

I have had a couple stores price match because of it.
 
Mine has a built in app that lets me refuse calls with a personal message. I don't accept out of area code calls unless I reconize the caller. Sure has cut down on calls from overseas routed through NJ and DC. :lol: :lol: :lol: :lol:
 
Volshooter: If you travel much like me you need to pick a favorite weather app. I use AccuWeather mobile. When you work outside it sure sucks to get where you are going underdressed. Pandora as mentioned already. "Aroundyouworld" again if you travel much. It determines where you are and pulls up all of the restaurants, hospitals, grocery stores, hotels etc. etc.. that are fairly close to your location. It also gives you thier phone numbers and driving directions.

What is an app? Can you just use a lap top? I don't get it. Will never own a smart phone,so doesn't really matter?

(Apps) Short for "applications." The programs you download and run on a smartphone. Can be free, or for sale.
Yes you can do almost anything a app does on a laptop except it doesnt do phone service very well when your mobile. :wink:

All my creditcards apps like Discover Mastercard and Visa.
A few games I kill time with are Tractor Pull, Diesel Pull, and Angybirds

I am on the go all day almost every day and it is much easier to keep my finances in check along with the Craigslist app setting that keep a search live for you so you dont miss any new listing for something you are looking for. It notifies me immediately when something I saved the search for is listed. No more "its already sold" when I get in at 6 or 7pm. :mrgreen:

Yep, it sure is. If you play with it you can find the ISS and various other satelites, granted you would have to have to xray vision because it shows everything. If you look through the earth (down) you can see what is on the other side out of view.

Just showed it to my wife. She could not find the north star if she had to, but she downloaded it. She has been outside for 20 minutes using it! I got her to download a compass app too. This is great! When I talk direction I use compass terms, she uses landmarks. It looks like she might start understanding my directions better. Thank you!
 
I like SoundHound. You hear a song you like, click the app, hold it towards the source, and in a few seconds you'll have the song and particular artist down to the album it was on. 50 people could have covered a song and it will give you the right one. I tried it with some really obscure songs and it pegged them every time.

The only way you CAN'T be traced is to remove the battery from the phone.

I am always playing with apps, my favorites so far are:

Android Assistant - Good for turning off or on certain features (max batt life) move apps to SD card and a whole other variety of tools

Flashlight

Lookout Mobile Security

Nikon Spot On Ballistic Match

Shazam - Identifying Songs

Tapatalk - Forum App

Zedge - Ringtones and wallpapers
 
Tripcase, GateGuru and Tripit for the airline travelers. You'll know the plane was delayed before the other people at the Airport. TripList for a packing list for traveling. SearGuru to give you input on the best airline seats. My TSA for wait times getting through airport security.

Open Table for making reservations at fairly high end restaurants.
