Best 7.62x54 Platform?

Seems like I can only find one rifle in constant circulation chambered in this cartridge.

I Sold my Romanian CUGIR PSL-54 last year and was looking for a current production weapon for this round... All I'm finding is Mosin Nagant rifles.

Fortunately I only have about a case left of this ammo. If I can't find a decent platform, I may just dump it for something else.

"Best platform" would depend on the intended use.
I like the cartridge more than I like the rifles which are chambered for it, so I've never actualy owned one myself. That said though, I've used a couple of old Mosin's that shot surprizingly well.

If ya ask me, the days of cheap milsurp guns 'n ammo is over.
The trick these days would be finding an example that aint already wore out, butchered, or beat to death. After that, it becomes a matter of cost VS it's worth to YOU.

When you saw case to you mean one of the 440 round sealed spam cans? Those seem to go between $100 -$150 here in Ma.

Try a Thompson Center Encore and have Mike Bellm do you a custom barrel. He swears by the cartridge in that platform.

There were a couple hundred thousand brand spanking new 91/30,s that came into the country a few years back.
I was seeing them at gun shows from 90 to 150 bucks depending on what factory made them .
There are still some floating around out there you just gotta look for them .It's my understanding that the Finish guns are the best of the bunch, they have an octagon receiver and if the dealer knows what he's got I've seen them go as high as 400 bucks, but their still brand new guns.
We have soprterized more than a few of these and done it the right way no bent bolt kits here ,but cutting, bending and rewelding the bolt and a proper set of scope based on them , glass bed the action and they are real nice àccurate shooters . There are some very nice aftermarket stocks for them out there in both wood and synthetic.
They make a great big game rifle and as far as ammo goes you can get new brass and roll your own loads taylored to your gun .
For around 500 bucks you can buy the gun and have the upgrades done and have one fine hunting rifle .
I'm on the look out for one I can snatch up cheap and do it up .
That round is stout enough hand loaded to take any big game in North America except grizz.
A lot of gun for a little money.

Yes that is the spam can I was referring to. As mentioned they seem to sell for $100-$150 around here.

I have expended some of this ammo in a dragunov. Offhand, would anyone know how many rounds each little individual brown bag holds? I would hate to open another one (I'm thinking it was 20.)

Well I found a decent one.

But all future importation of these, and parts for them, is suspended until further notice.

I would rather stick with a common local caliber.

Dumped this ammo yesterday. Found out manufacturing has been cut back big time, and this ammo, as well as Mosin nagants are currently under import ban. It's not difficult to see why not many people are familiar with this.
