Belt wear ??

I wear both a belt and suspenders whenever I carry.

As early as 50 years ago, I recall that "Belt and suspenders" was a phrase used to describe a situation requiring a need for extreme caution - "Take a belt-and-suspenders approach. Be doubly cautious."

I always wear suspenders. I almost always wear a holster belt unattached to my pants.

Well, I was wearing suspenders for awhile when I worked on the railroad cause the bellt seems to make a back sore with hunched over driving railroad spikes all day long. After I left the railroad I went on a Health kick lost 65 pounds and now nothing fits. A belt loose with a holster on it would move everywhere and drive me crazy. I am now wearing a belt in the loops and lifting weights and doing lots of calisthenics. I can do 75 crunches upside down on my tip table. And workout alot. I'm 52

Getting to the ops question about wearing a belt not through the loops. What good would that do? The only belt I've ever worn not through the loops was a duty gun belt. And it had belt keepers on 4 quarters to keep it in place with my under belt which was through my belt loops. I'm not a cop any more but if I was I'd add suspenders.

I am sorta proud of myself , I worked very hard to get back in a decent shape.I even got of BP medicine.

If I wear jeans with bachelor buttons the suspenders button on I treat them like bib overalls. No trouser belt. Usually I pocket carry a jframe.

If I’m wearing short jeans without suspenders. I wear a regular garrison belt through the belt loops. Usually I pocket carry still. But I have some holsters that work with that style belt.

Now to answer your actual question.

If I want to carry a big gun in a duty type holster. I put on a belt over whatever I’m wearing.

Either a heavy nylon duty belt with QLS holster attachments. Or occasionally a Sam Brown belt with old school leather duty holsters.

I never thought of wearing a garison belt not threaded through the belt loops, to hold a holster but I see no reason not to too. It would even work under bib overalls

This time of the year I wear (around home) what I call gym shorts with a draw string.
I have worn a belt at times to carry my cellphone, holster, and/or tools.
