Ballistic tables

Does anyone have a real good internet site for "mixing and matching" bullet loads. For example, and what I am currently looking for, is if you plug in a 350gr 45/70 load at 2,200 FPS what should the hi be at for 100 yards to insure a point blank, at say 160 yards and be 5" low at 200? I have a number of ballistic charts but what I have now doesn't allow me to plug in variables such as bullet weight and what would be the PB at such and such sighting in at 100yds and other distances if I plug in a 405gr advertised at 2,100 fps.

Hi,

I've used a program in the past called Point Blank, which is available free on the Internet. A search will lead you to various download sites.

It does most of what it sounds like you want to do. Seems one needs to know the ballistic coefficient (BC) for the best results. There's a built-in database of popular calibers and mfrs' bullets, and BCs are listed on some of the mfrs' sites for their commercial bullets, and sometimes for the cast bullets their molds produce.

The program's not perfect, but the price is and it may take care of everything you want to do.

I've noticed that the back of some of my manuals (Speer comes immediately to mind) offer ballistic tables.

I have used the Hornady ballistic tables, and the data has been helpful in getting me started on setting up my sights for the long shots. I say getting started because once you set up by the tables, you have to test the load at the range. There are many variables coming into play that are not in the tables, and you only know for sure how a bullet will fly when you shoot it at a target from a known distance.

I take note of the actual POI of a load at 100, 200 and 300 yds. That's as far as the range I use can accomodate. I take the note with me to the field as a reminder. Some people tape the data to the rifle. That's a bit extreme for me. I keep the card in my shirt pocket.
