Sort of adding on to my previous thread about armor. Most of the people I know that own them ( 4 to be exact) are using Kevlar level III A. Terrific. But after trying one on that even had a liner, a realization hit. They may stop some rounds from penetrating the head, it doesn't seem like that light a helmet will stop anyone from getting clobbered, maybe a concussion or cracked skull, and certainly getting knocked out of action. While I can see them in a war zone, I don't know if they are worth the wear for the current city conflicts. Thoughts? Note to Exnordie- pretty sure there is nothing invasive here. I didn't ask about ownership or numbers. Just want to know people's thoughts on whether they are worthwhile in a non-war zone.

Can't add more.....they are not meant for protection from projectiles anymore than a skateboard helmet were (which were used in early days). Heck in the past couple decades they seem more for mounting night vision and other crap.

Ok bait taken...

You of course are referring to ICE operations. If I were in that capacity these days I would consider it very worthy and wouldn't operate without it. Because the left loonies have indeed turned it into a war zone. There should be no conflicts but...

Xusnordie, I don't know why you seem to misunderstand most of my posts, but whatever. No bait offered. No specific group either. I was talking about city violence. One of my residences is about 30 minutes from the George Washington Bridge. I have had to go to that disgusting hole on the other side on several occasions in my life. Plenty of violence every single day, and has been since I have been alive. The police, riot squads, Swat, etc. all use the helmets. I asked the people here who are more knowledgeable than I if they thought the helmets were worthwhile. That's it. Whoever is crapping in your wheaties, it isn't me. Sometimes we disagree and I voice my opinion. That is what is SUPPOSED to happen in a FORUM. Discussion. Debate. Exchange of knowledge. If you believe that I have none to offer, why not scroll past or put me on your ignore list?

Helmets, a we see today, were designed to protect the head from shrapnel and other like items. They were never designed to atually stop a bullet.
That's what I would think, but they do have NJIII (or IIIA - I can't remember which) level ballistic rating. Still, you must be right, simply because - as stated earlier- a hit from a round is still going to knock the wearer down and do plenty of damage. Thank you for answering.

What's a skateboard helmet. Must be some new fangled contraption today's fragile youth are required by state laws to wear, like bicycle helmets.
