backwards magazine help

my mark 3 hunter has the mag in backwards. I bought the tool and it is still stuck. The instructions are very vague. Does the bolt have to be open? Does pulling the trigger have to take place? The tool does go in the ejection side of the gun?

The bolt should be back and the tool is pushed up from the bottom inside of the mag well on the front side of the mag (side towards the back now that is in backwards)
