Wife and I just spent the last 10 days up in the Mountains of North Carolina.... did get up to close to 80 yesterday... but the rest of the time the high might have been 75 and the low in the morning 60. This was just east of Franklin N.C. and dead smack down in a holler 30 minutes or more from everywhere.....

Took our two dogs and the first couple of days were an adventure... (mostly a learning experience for me)... house we rented was advertised as pet friendly and the owner said it was fenced in... what he did not disclose or realize was that it was fenced in for cows and lazy dogs.... first night we were there our 35lb fox hound Tally slipped past me and took off.... she was 1/4 mile away in about a minute on a run after something... how do I know this other than the sound she was making? Well I was semi smart and had put a GPS tracking collar on her before we went in the gate and on the property.... I got in the car drove down the road and then got out and crossed a 300 yard pasture and finally found her back in the woods....

Next day the owner shows up and we take a roll of fencing and cover the cow gates and one spot in the fence down by the "crick.." She, 'Tally' was good for the rest of the day.... then first light I let her out and she is gone again... seems she followed the sent of something that had slipped under the fence in another spot down by the creek. This time it took me two hours of traveling around the dern mountain after her... she would be dong her cry and after something in one direction and by the time I got within a 100 yards of her she'd be 300 yards off in another direction..... So, I worked not the fence some more that afternoon and got it in better shape... then the next day the wife and I took her into another pasture to check out the pond there and did not realize there was another gate that was open up over the hill..

Off she goes up the mountain and around the same places she was he day before... but I got smart... I just sat on the bank at the bottom of the road up and watched her on the GPS tracking receiver I have... and after about 30 minutes here she comes...... happy as can be to see me.

I think there was at least one other time in all that where she got out but now it is all kind of muddled... Had two different couples come up and join us for a few days and it was a great time....

Here's a picture of the place we stayed I took with my drone: (white dot to the left of the red car is me)

And here is a picture of me with the little trouble maker:

Looks like a really good time to me.

We went on a 2 week camping trip, back in April and got as far as Asheville NC. Beautiful country up there, the Blue Ridge Parkway was an amazing drive.
We went to the Biltmore and did the tour, the dog went on the walking part outside but was not allowed in the house... She pooped on their lawn and felt mighty good about it.

We would definitely like to go back.

That's the main reason I don't have beagles. My retrievers instinctively come back. The worst I have had to do was 10 minutes calling and he was distracted by a neighbor's dog in heat. Can't really hold that against him.

My Pap Pap raised and worked Beagles. Their instinct to chase was usually their demise. When they caught the car there was a thabump when the tire got them.

Living here in the city she is always on a leash when we go out for a walk.... fenced in area of the place we rented was several acres and so she could run.... there is nothing better than watching a hunting dog run and follow a scent. Oh and this little critter is not a beagle ... legs are way too long... she's either a cross between a Fox hound and beagle or Walker Hound and beagle at most....

Looks like a straight Walker to Me. Jus sayn. I used to breed 1/2 Walker 1/2 beagles for deer dogs years ago. Either way you crossed em didnt get dog that big. Made some really good deer dogs. Good nose and big enough to cover ground. Them with a Remington 742 and some good 180gr RN Corelokts were the demise of lots of Deer

I remember rabbit hunting over them. If you missed you just wait a few minutes because the dogs chase them in a circle. I tried not to give them too many laps not that they minded. My Chesapeake would give me a look whenever I shot and a bird didn't fall like WTF was that!!!
