Just got my bolt release modified on my new 10/22 and what a improvement over the way it was. It eliminates the need to pull back the bolt and then push up the bolt operate/release lever to release the bolt. Now to release the bolt from the locked back position all you have to do is pull back on the bolt and release. Highly recommend it either way/aftermarket bolt release or a dremel tool and a file.

It has been one of the most popular mods in the past decade or so... simple and a good functional reason behind it.

Guys,

Are we speaking of a magazine release lever that makes extracting the magazine and putting a another in easier or a automatic bolt release that simplifies bolt release with a single pull?

OR

A mag release that works as a bolt release also?

OR

Both mentioned adaptions?

Thanks.

I too got confused a while ago writing about 10/22 mods... mag release is pretty simple and just a newer lever that extends down further..... what the OP is writing about is the factory 10/22's awful bolt release that I can't even explain how it works because along with a better trigger pull is the absolute first thing I do to any 10/22 or charger I purchase.... it does require taking the trigger group apart ... which is best done with a spare pin or two... #8 nail with the tip cut square will work fine for this... here is a picture I took of how to do the modification if one does not want to buy a modified part ...

I like to keep my factory parts so I bought my auto bolt releases from Kidd Innovative Design....installed in nothing flat and works GREAT.....first 2 changes I make to my 10/22s is to install the auto bolt release and the bolt buffer.

Same here. I have installed the Volquartsen version of both of these in all of my 10/22s. Two very practical and affordable modifications that should be stock in my opinion.

I modified my stock "Bolt lock" all I did was grind out the little point inside the hole and it works great.

I don't like fiddling back and forth with these things.... I think I did have to file the 'nub' hole down some more (twice) to get it to work... but since I had a Volquartsen one I figured the best thing to do was try and copy theirs and also take down that upper right portion too.
