Danjet, I too saw that posting on 'that other forum'. They discussed the faux ivory sold at guitar parts and more dot com. I don't post on that forum so I didn't respond re: guitar parts, but, I will post here. This is their product; I made a set for my SA 1911. I'm no artist, but this stuff is easy to work with and polish-up on my drill press with a cloth wheel and jewelers rouge. They discussed the schreger lines which I think you can see in my poor photos.
One of the things that I thought was missing from the info is the fact that real ivory will shrink with age. Unless it is truly aged before fitting, the grips will eventually shrink a bit and show some grip frame material around the edges. I had a set do this, that's how I found out. p.s. I also have a .38Super barrel that I use in this 1911.
