Thank goodness clothes for both men and women have because more practical. Still, I would like to see an end to men's ties as they are uncomfortable and serve no useful purpose.

It's kind of odd that back a couple hundred years ago when it was hard to wash and iron clothes they wore clothing that would be so expensive and hard to maintain. Now that we have easy methods to clean clothes we have simple cheap (comparatively) and simple clothes.

England/UK, A much cooler climate in those days ; Keep in mind the "little ice age" in 1650 and we still have not reached the temps of the Roman empire days.

We live in a area with a lot of polygamist. The other day my wife asked a lady in the supermarket wasn't it hot wearing those old time long dress`s? She said no, it insulated her from the heat.

Looking at the house, and the way they were dressed, you can tell they had servants to do those things for them.. They were the upper crust of society..

I used to do a lot of genealogy as a hobby. I got reading a lot of census reports. Not all that long ago, (early 1900`s) a lot of family's, even farm family's, it was very common to have a servant girl living with them. My dad, born in 1913, said his five older sisters all left home very young to work for people in the city's for probably just their board. All turned out well. My sister did it for a short while too when she went to collage. She got her room in exchange for working for the woman at night. However that didn't last long as they got in a fight.
