I just left there and the link went directly to the story.
Now this "journalist" says the guns will be available for "nasty citizens" to buy.
Left a pretty "thoughtful" comment for them.
I'm surprised they even allowed the news on their site. Don't expect them to tell you how to get one!
There's a reason why I stopped going to yahoo and every time I do go there I once again know why.
Our country is in deep trouble. Sad..

I am not too thrilled in general over this.

A Club member and a friend is tight with CMP and he has heard that the lowest grade of the 1911 will sell for over $1000.

That is the most used, abused they have and the prices will go higher for better grades.

Seems the CMP may have thought that they stumbled onto a good thing so they can raise money. Only to screw over the "nasty citizens".

Authorization to transfer - and actually assigning funds for the transfer - are two different things. We'll see...
so unless I hear of milsurp 1911s at milsurp prices - well I'll be waiting.

If they are in any kind of shape like the Berreta M9's are I doubt it's will be something many of us would seek to own. Some of them are at extremely high round counts and beat up pretty good. Their price point is way off and too high. I'd be more likely to put my money into a new Ruger 10mm 1911 I believe.

Because of the limited number and the exceedingly high demand for the pistol, and the great level of Congressional scrutiny, the Board of Directors will make a decision regarding how sales will be handled. We have no further information at this time. – Mrs. Judith Legerski, Chairman, CMP Board of Directors


10/11/17 An update on the 1911’s…
We are waiting patiently and quietly to see how the NDAA 2018 turns out. All prescribed steps have been taken by CMP to fulfill the mandated requirements for receipt of the 1911s from the United States Army. CMP is in a constant state of readiness. The CMP has no further information at this time.

Hate to say it, but a good 1911 brand-new from a factory can be had for a few hundred bucks these days. They've come along way from the milsurp glory days of being the only place one could by a US milsurp.
Aside from the nostalgia, one can go get a stainless Remington for wayyy under $500 NIB with modern steels and sights, etc. Ruger for a bit more. Plus dozens of imports...

The military release of hundreds of thousands of 1911s may just be too late to spark interest on a scale that might have been a deal ten years ago. we'll see.
