Armed Forces Day

We did a big Armed Forces Day shindig in Mt. Angel Oregon.
A member of our Legion Post shuts down his garage on the main drag, sets up a BBQ, invites military vehicle collectors to display their vehicles, and we invite one and all to come have a burger, chicken or hot dog, on us. Today was a great day.
Thank You God.
And thank you Veterans.

I volunteer to help at the USO center at a nearby Navy Base.
Yesterday, talking to some of the trainees I thanked them for their service and mentioned Armed Forces Day and that it was "their day."
Some of them didn't know what I was talking about.
I know, they are young and new to the military. But what does that say about their Command.
Is it just me? Maybe I expect too much.

Apparently the "news" ignored it because I dont recall seeing reporting about it; They pay more attention to the "gay/tranny/crossdresser" parades.

My American Legion Riders post did a nice motorcycle ride and chili feed today. We didn't forget.
We have one WWII Vet still with us in my Legion Post. Still active, still parties with us, quite spry, and oh the stories. He was in the Navy, tasked with convoy escort in the North Atlantic. God Bless this man, and all the others...

A nearby city has had an Armed Forces Day Parade as long as I can remember. They usually have aircraft flyovers. This year they included a C-47, invasion stripes and all. Interestingly, the city has a large population of Japanese ancestry and a airport named after Louis Zamperini (his story was told in the movie "Unbreakable").
