AR556 Pistol

I picked up a Ruger .556 pistol a few weeks ago just because it was a good price and found out they have been discontinued. Anyone know why. I'm assuming sales. Also any idea what they go for now? Only found one still for sale online at a pawn shop.

No idea on prices. Why they were discontinued? Market share? Every Tom, Dick, and Harry AR assembler is offering an AR 'pistol'. Trying to sell an expensive item in a price point market is a loser.
An AR 5.56 'pistol' is an odd creature. Looks neat and has 'cool factor' right up to the point when the thing fires.
I have several AR pistols in different calibers and use them for hunting BUT they're most obnoxious if hearing pro isn't doubled up and produce a basketball sized muzzle flash. o_O

My memory is they hung around until the ATF proposed rule on braced pistols and disappeared almost immediately after. Lots of market churn for AR pistols during that process.

If you picked it up a few weeks ago, seems like you probably have a decent reference for price. The AR market is garbage right now despite the election cycle.

I know someone that bought a DD 10-1/2" 556 pistol from a buddy.
It was so obnoxious to shoot but was so well made and functioned perfectly.
I suggested finding a 10-1/2" 300BO barrel.
He found a knew one, second hand and swapped it for the flame thrower.
Total joy and satisfaction afterwards,
like Dr Jekyll and Mr Hide, really sweet.

I have AR pistols in .223, 300 AAC, 6.8SPC, 7.62x39, 22lr and 9mm. The .223, 300, and 6.8 are 10.5-11" barrel hunting tools and are used with a suppressor. The 7.62 is sort of user friendly with a 'blast forwarder' mounted. The suppressed 300 AAC with sub-sonic ammo is just plain FUN and even unsuppressed with full power ammo is not a face slap ear blasting experience.
The 5" 22lr with a muffler makes the user feel like the Spec Ops guys on the TV shows. :love: :whistle:

Once again Ruger playing MeeToo in a saturated market!!! Ruger should stick to what they have always done best and not many else are doing. Pistols with hammers and takedown long guns. If they made the LCC takedown and in a selection of practical calibers I think it would compete in the world of folding PCC's. The PCC is an absolute brick compared to most current market offerings. None of their "Striker Fired pistols have achieved any level of significance. Making anything not optic ready these days is just pathetic. Imagine an LCP with a built in Ready Dot!!! That could be absolutely dominant!!! A DA/SA Max9 with a hammer so you can use your thumb like God intended!!!

I haven't shot it yet. I already have an AR pistol in 9mm. I have a mag co version in it that takes M&P mags. Will probably do the same to this Ruger as I already have another 9mm upper.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Ruger return with them now that the pistol brace ban has been vacated. There were a lot of stores that would not inventory AR pistols or braces during that period. A lot of lawyering going on.

Since there are only 3 parts(barrel, gas tube, & buffer tube) different in an AR 'pistol' vs an AR carbine, it's not a big deal to 'make a pistol version'. The box label is probably a bigger deal than changing the physical parts.
