Apologies...."Mossberg"

Sorry folks...have to take my Ruger hat off for a minute and put out feelers for a part source.

Mossy 500 12GA. When I was in the Navy put untold rounds through and abused Mossy 500's......only issue ever was a broken trigger guard. They held their own big time against the aging 870s...which by the way had a once in awhile tendency of double feeding just prior to round count send back to CRANE. The 870's were replaced with 500's. It's the main reason I went with a Mossy 500 for my HD shotty years ago and it's been a tank.

Anyway........last year I put on a NDZ extended safety. Love it. But I noticed something rattling in it today when I pulled it out to put on a Streamlight TL Racker 1000 forend. I thought the bearing in the safety had come loose and somehow worked it's way down (impossible by the way). So I took off the safety, shook it over the desk and a small piece fell out. Drat......removed the trigger assembly and sure enough it was the "tab" on the rear of the trigger that broke off. Somehow?......I did replace the stock a couple years back, but the bolt was the correct length, it has at least two threads to go and under flush. So that's not it. I don't have super human strength (anymore ) and never had a death squeeze on the trigger with safety engaged. Unsure what happened. I never abused this shotty like the issue pieces we put through the guantlet.

All that to say....I've checked around the typical places.....but can't find a trigger to buy alone.....just the entire assembly. Even Ebay/Numerich/etc....

Does anyone know of a good Mossy parts source? If not.......time to get the old standby JB Weld out and see if it will hold....

Yep tried Brownells/Midway/Numerich ....all the typical first places....and some others......All out of stock for 500/590.

Mossberg won't sell you a trigger as a lone part. They want you to send the entire shotgun in. No thanks. I can put a trigger in.

Normally I wouldn't mind paying for entire assembly, Mossy's are cheap. But I've been clearing the bench, drawers, cans, boxes of too many OEM parts collected from over the years. Although I did find enough to put together a 1022 several month back.

If I can't find a lone trigger I will just JB Weld it. The shotty will function fine.....just won't have a active safety.....but at least that NDZ will look good if not functional.

I think that would irritate me just enough to where I would call Mossberg. I believe if you send the just the trigger assembly they'll send you a new one but I'm not sure if they'll charge you for it.

I can’t help you with the parts, but I did have a model 600at that was an outstanding shotgun. Beautiful wood and brought down many dove.

You had a New Haven 600 most likely....Mossy made them for awhile for store brands back in the day.

My first GUN was a Mossberg. My first deer gun was a Mossberg. The only shotguns I EVER owned were Mossbergs. Then, I bought a Mossberg .22 semi auto - kinda like an AR clone.

That piecocrap was made in Mexico. It had problems from day one. It was sent back to the mexico service station 3 times and they did nothing.

I sold it at half price to get rid of it and bought a S&W.

I'll keep my oldies, but if someone gave me a new Mossy I would donate it just to get rid of it.

Mossy is fine, just not the imported gimmicky stuff. Like I said I watched them get heavily abused and keep kicking. Most common issue in the Armory was a broken trigger guard. When MIL went to 590 they requested metal trigger guards.

My Mossy in question is over 20 years old. I did buy it used...tore it down for routine cleaning many times but never messed with the assembly aside from spraying it out and function testing.

I had a M500 Turkey model in the 90's and loved it.....also had a M5500 semi auto that was finicky but ran well when tuned right. Also had a 835....wish I had those Mossy's back.

The classifieds here are dangerous........there's a lot of money that can be lost in there.......so many things I want but don't need....

I will go in looking for a trigger and end up with a nice Security Six or OM BH.....The Superior Unit (Wifey) would kill me .....

Yeah, I put an ad up to buy a blued half lug GP100 and ended up buying 2 NIB 100th year Security Six’s and a USPS gun.
Couldn’t afford to “bump” the GP ad so let it expire.

This is a cake and eat it too topic. The solution is there but the OP doesn't want to take the route. I get it.

The only Mossberg I've ever had is a 500E .410 that I refinished so it looked nice instead of like milky painted wood. My mid-70's 870 looks like it belongs in a museum compared the original finish on the Mossberg. I still have it, never shot it. Tried to sell it once.

The solution is a scam, in my opinion. Maybe not everyone has the ability to do simple things like take apart a trigger assembly, replace a part and reassemble. Some folks are intimidated to take on such tasks and are taken advantage of, in my opinion. $27 for a single trigger, or $20 for a bag of parts which I only need 1 part, or a kit with more parts, or send the entire gun in for a simple task. Sheesh.

I've never owned a Mossy to look nice. They were either for hunting or security/home defense use. My 500 Turkey, 5500 and 835 were beat up pretty well over the years and kept ticking. Didn't care if they looked nice, just needed them to work. They did.

For "nice" I have a 1964 870 Wingmaster......it was made the month/year I was born, given to me years ago in fantastic condition. That shotty I want kept looking nice. I took it out for clays a couple times, and for dove a couple times. It still looks fantastic, aside from a small scratch on the barrel under bead.

Us Ordies panic when there are spare parts.....we weren't smart enough to know where they came from to put them back.....if we were missing something we'd just strip it from the hanger bay queen...usually from another squadrons queen at that...

As long as it fired and went boom we were good.....
