Either one of two things here. #1 - the animal was hit with a tranquilizer dart a few minutes before and was about to drop anyway (if you look it appears a little wobbly as the guy approaches it), or, #2 - the critter is sick and disoriented. No wild prey animal like that is going to let a human within 100 yards of it if it's healthy and coherent.

That made me a little sad to see that clip. I truly felt sorry for the kudu.

To shoot an animal during a planned hunt is one thing, but that critter was obviously drugged or sick, and for that man to take advantage in that way was repulsive to me. Better to have simply shot it to put it down than take advantage of it in such a way.

Sorry, he didn't win my admiration.

Another explanation is that the animal was raised by humans and was therefore not alarmed by humans.

No different than bulldogging a cow. The Kudo appears unafraid. I second that it had been tranked, and they needed to take blood samples? Too many people there for a hunt.

I'm not clear why they did it. But from experience I do know that the vast majority of PH's are strong conservationists and take care of the animals. I'm thinking what they did was necessary for some reason, or they wouldn't have had all the people there to help.
